Position Overview

We have the perfect opportunity for you to join our team with no emergency shifts, and just one Saturday morning a month (closed during the summers.)
Location
Our practice is located in Dell Rapids, SD. There is local housing available and we are just 20 miles north of the largest city in the state.  The commute up the interstate may be quicker than your commute across Sioux Falls.  
 
Practice Overview
Established in 2006, Dells Veterinary Services is a privately-owned, AAHA accredited practice serving high-end livestock herds as well as offering top of the line pet care. Our clients RAVE about us because we are passionate about educating and delivering the highest quality veterinary care. We believe in elevating everyone from our staff to our clients, and we do this through a dedication to excellent service and continuous learning. We have an 8,400sqft facility with all the bells and whistles for equipment including digital x-ray, ultrasound, in-house bloodwork and urinalysis, gas anesthesia in our surgical and dental suites along with cold laser, digital dental x-rays, and Midmark 3 dental equipment.   We utilize Cornerstone for our veterinary records as well as Vet Hero and our app to communicate with clients
What You’ll Be Working On

  • Engaging and communicating with clients promoting education and preventative care
  • Assisting with patient history, restraint, charges, estimates and client education in the exam room
  • Monitoring patient conditions during treatments, procedures and hospitalization.
  • Performing laboratory procedures and x-rays to assist in diagnosis and treatments
  • Preparing medications for both outpatient and inpatients and helping stock trucks for livestock appointments.
  • Preparing surgical equipment, including sterilization, and ensuring that the operating room is properly stocked, sterilized and ready for surgery;  This includes maintaining equipment on a regular schedule.
  • Preparing for office hours by stocking drawers and refrigerators in exam rooms and treatment area and assuring that drugs and equipment are ready before appointments and procedures
  • Stock and manage inventory of medical supplies, medications, and equipment.
  • Assisting the receptionists as needed and assume their duties during their absence
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by management

 
Qualifications


  • A very good master of the English language (written and spoken) is required
  • You must be available for full time employment consisting of four, 10.5 -hour shifts plus 1 out of 4 Saturday mornings during the school year.
  • Be able to lift and handle up to 50 pounds
  • Be outgoing, positive, energetic, self-motivated and career-oriented
  • Possess excellent time management skills in a fast-paced environment with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have a strong understanding of animal behavior and handling techniques
  • Strong candidates will show a stable career path where your previous employment and areas of interest will have led you to a career in this field.  Previous experience in a veterinary clinic preferred.
  • The right candidate must also show at least 2 years performance at the same job with no change in career during that time.

  • Compensation varies due to experience and contributions to the clinic .  Starting wage is $16-19/hour based on experience plus opportunities for production bonuses
