Animal Care Specialist

We are currently seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join MPFI as an Animal Care Specialist. The selected individual will perform duties that include the daily care of research animals, colony management, involvement with behavioral projects, and other related tasks.  Specific duties include performing post-operative care and record keeping; preparing diets; performing technical procedures; providing guidance and training to other employees; overseeing the training of animal care staff and incoming researchers; and developing, reviewing, and implementing standard operating procedures. The Animal Care Specialist is expected to keep a very a clean and organized environment, and must be available for weekend, holiday, and emergency coverage as needed in addition to other tasks as appropriate.

A Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline or equivalent is required in addition to a minimum of five (5) years of related experience. Experience must include colony management and protocol development. The selected candidate must have attention to detail and accuracy, good communication skills, and high levels of discretion, professional judgment, ethics and confidentiality.

AALAS certification at LATg level is preferred.
