BSW Round Rock Cancer Center Radiation Therapist Assistant


Part Time: 24-29 hours per week 


JOB SUMMARY

The Radiation Therapy Assistant performs patient care needs and help functions associated with radiation therapy procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider under the direct supervision of the Radiation Therapist. RT Assistant will aid in patient positioning. Additional duties include the inventory and storage of supplies and cleaning of treatment rooms in preparation for the next patient.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE


  • Prepares patient and area for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position.
  • Under direct supervision of a Radiation Therapists, maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
  • Utilized AIDET when communicating with patients to: identify patient service requirements, ensure correct exam is performed on the correct patient, and establish rapport with patients and their family about the treatment to be performed.
  • Maintains patient and staff confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintains a clean and serviceable work environment to enhance patient care.
  • Wears personal monitoring device on collar and submits it promptly and regularly for assessment of occupational dosage.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, infection control, drug and radiation policies, protocols and techniques. Uses proper sterile techniques when setting up.
  • Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities of equipment. Reports issues to management or appropriate department.
  • Maintains supplies inventory and treatment rooms stocked.
  • Ensures people are safe to enter the department by screening them according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Reports any loss, damage, or unusual events associated with personal monitoring device immediately to the Radiation Safety Office.
  • Diligently observes patient, recognizes changes in condition and seeks appropriate help.

  • Able to explain the procedure and put patients at ease
  • Able to give services in a timely, and accurate way in compliance with established system and regulatory standards, policies and procedures.
  • Able to perform in scope tasks alone without need for constant oversight.
  • Able to maintain a calm and helpful attitude, even under times of stress, and take appropriate and reasonable steps to resolve issues.
  • Able to effectively administer first aid and use emergency cart.
  • Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge and skills for appropriate care
  • Must be effectively pursuing Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy (ARRT-T) and Licensing by the State of Texas Medical Board as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT). Must achieve Certification and Licensing within 6 months of start date. Inability to comply will result in termination.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION – H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • EXPERIENCE – Less than 1 Year of Experience

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION


  • ARRT-T Radiation Therapy (ARRT-T): Must obtain ARRT-T within 6 months of hire.
