About the Role:
Job Summary
Provides clinical nutrition services to our adult and adolescent patients including nutritional assessment, diet counseling, post metabolic and bariatric surgery diet progression based on surgeon protocol, and interventions specific for our bariatric patients seeking weight loss to achieve or maintain a healthier weight. Ensures patient satisfaction, quality care, regulatory compliance and good public relations are achieved in accordance with the population specific guidelines and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals when performing clinical duties. Provides patient and family education to support the nutritional and lifestyle changes necessary to maximize weight loss post metabolic and bariatric surgery through medical nutritional counseling, support groups, and approved social media platforms created by PR for this purpose.
Minimum Job Qualifications

Licensure or other certifications: Licensure or other certifications: Registered by Commission for Dietetic Registration. Licensed by the state of Georgia. BLS

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree.

Minimum Experience: Minimum one year experience required. Member of National and State American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) within one year of employment.

Language skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of medical staff, healthcare professionals, managers, clients, customers, and the general public

Computer skills: Ability to operate a standard computer, including basic use of MS applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

Formulates and executes appropriate nutritional care of assigned patients/residents. Assesses the nutritional status of the pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient as applicable, through documentation in the medical record per hospital policies and state regulations. Develops and revises a nutritional care plan based upon information from the patient, medical record, family, and health care team members for those patients who will benefit from Medical Nutrition Therapy. Makes recommendations for patient care using current evidence based practice. Plans regular and modified menus based upon guidelines as outlined in the owner’s manual or per physician’s recommendations and communicates this information with the patient and/or family members and health care team. Educates patient and/or family members with appropriate nutritional education to expand their knowledge of the patient’s illness, promote recovery, and improve function.

Recommends vitamin and protein supplementation post metabolic and bariatric surgery based on American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

Participates in assigned programs to promote proper nutrition while maintaining commitment to education and personal growth. Provides in-service education programs to hospital staff, patients and families, and community members. Participates in support groups, health fairs, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Interdisciplinary committees, teams, etc. as indicated by areas of responsibility. Participates in and attends departmental meetings, staff development, and professional programs as appropriate. Seeks educational opportunities to increase clinical competency, including age-specific nutritional care, sufficient to meet requirements for licensure/registration. Attends online or in person National or State ASMBS interdisciplinary committee meetings, conferences, and continuing education sessions as available and applicable.

Maintains effective written and verbal communication. Communicates well with the interdisciplinary team through charting and individual consultation. This includes telephone, written, and electronic communication. Communicates effectively with other Nutrition Services Staff members to help coordinate clinical and Food Service for effective patient/resident care. Completes all required documentation, reports and logs in a timely, professional and thorough manner.

Coordinates with the team to keep the Dietitian referral que up to date.

Performs Resource/Educator duties. May serve as a resource person for Catering and Nutrition Services staff as applicable.

Performs job correctly and safely while observing the rules of conduct. Adheres to facility confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and patient rights policies. Complies with regulatory agency standards, including federal, state. Follows facility and department infection control policies and procedures and follows facility’s protocols for Hazardous Materials and Waste Program. Participates in facility-wide and department Performance Improvement Program and on Performance Improvement teams to improve processes and patient care. Bariatrics: Formulates and executes appropriate nutritional counseling for pre-op and post-op bariatric patients
