Taos Ski Valley, Inc.

Resort Services manages all retail, rental, special events, partnerships, storage, and uniform operations for Taos Ski Valley, Inc. This includes Taos Sports Retail and Rental, Confluence, Kachina Sports Retail and Rental, Eis Haus Ice Skating, Seasonal and Daily Lockers, Lost & Found, Special Events Promotions, Partnership Marketing, Warehouse – Shipping/Receiving, and all Resort Uniform needs. Resort Services assures all these operations are performed safely, efficiently, and profitably with an unconditionally excellent experience for our guests.

The Resort Services Hardgoods Buyer is responsible for the purchasing, receiving, pricing, and profitable sale of all retail hardgoods for Taos Ski Valley, Inc.

Hardgoods include and are not limited to skis and snowboards, boots, bindings, poles, helmets, goggles, backcountry and hiking, tools and service parts.

Essential Job Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for the strategic research, testing, analysis, ordering, procurement, receiving, pricing, storing, controlling/reporting, product training, and the final profitable sale of all hardgoods for Taos Ski Valley, Inc.
  • Negotiate best terms and conditions for all purchase.
  • Meet or exceed supplier order and payment deadlines.
  • Process warrantee claims to the best interests of guest and company.
  • Attend trade and buying shows.
  • Lead the boot-fit and hardgoods sales team by establishing our philosophy, training, continuing ed, and hiring to achieve an elevated guest experience.
  • Correctly fit ski and snowboard boots, build custom footbeds and adjust boot shells professionally for walk-ins and by appointment.
  • Actively work in Retail and or Rentals, engaging customers and lead by example with product knowledge of skis and boards, bindings, ski poles, and related gear.
  • Outfit all guests with the right gear for the right experience.
  • Maintain a boot-fit schedule and appointment calendar.
  • Report regularly and as needed to Senior management.
  • Reliable attendance on all scheduled workdays.
  • Professionally Supervise and support any Resort Services workspace as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Knowledge:


  • 6 years retail or related buying or supervisory experience.
  • 6 years boot fitting, tuning, instructing or other snow sports skilled trade.
  • Level III ski and or snowboard ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Retail point-of-sale and inventory management software experience.
  • Understanding of retail math.
  • Ability to review financial information for accuracy and identify problem areas.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple functions simultaneously in a high-pressure environment and on strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrates experience appropriately handling differences, both internally and/or with guests.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings.

Work Environment:

Taos Ski Valley, Inc. is often a fast-paced work environment, especially during Holidays and Peak days. TSVI is in a high-altitude alpine environment. Position may require travel on uneven, snow-packed, or icy terrain and may be exposed to wet, cold, and/or humid conditions. Must be able to work in close quarters and with other staff.



Physical Demands of Position Include:

25% of time spent sitting at a computer or POS. 50-75% of time spent standing/walking. 10-25% of the time spent moving objects – often lifting 10-25lbs, rarely up to 50lbs, and using a dolly.

Positions dealing with children, of safety-sensitive and/or confidential nature, require driving or positions that handle cash may require a background check and MVR check. Employment is contingent upon a favorable background check and MVR check.
