OVERVIEW:
The Manager of Merchandise Planning drives the development/implementation/execution of business strategies that support our key company objectives; the maximization of Sales/GM/Turnover/Customer Experience. The Manager of Merchandise Planning achieves these results through the leadership of a group of Merchandise Planners, focusing on coaching, development, and ensuring that key deliverables (OTB/Financial Plans) are met in a timely and accurate manner. This role is also responsible for ensuring proper alignment of the cross functional merchandising team to ensure proper development/execution of our strategies.
Job Duties & Responsibilities % of Time
Leads the cross functional merchandising team in the development of plans/strategies that deliver our company objectives (Sales/Turn/GM). The Manager of Merchandise Planning leads their team in the development of financial plans, and partners with the buying team to deliver assortment plans and flow strategies that will align and support these metrics. The SMP ensures that financial plans tie to our company strategic targets. 25%
The Manager of Merchandise Planning is directly responsible for the planning of a specific zone of business. They are expected to develop financial plans/ladder plans/vendor plans, and partner with buying team in the development of assortment plans. They are responsible for all aspects of in season OTB management, providing accurate forecasts and working with their merchant partners to react to the business. 10%
The Manager of Merchandise Planning partners with the internal and external business partners to ensure we are delivering our plans in season, course correcting when necessary to ensure we are driving sales and GM while managing our inventory. Risk management is a key responsibility of the Manager of Merchandise Planning. They must be able to identify and surface business risks (Sales/GM/Inv), and make recommendations to proactively manage the issues. 20%
The Manager of Merchandise Planning is expected to effectively coach, train and lead their team of Merchandise Planners. They are primarily responsible for training the Merchandise Planners in the key systems and concepts necessary to effectively perform their jobs. They are expected to provide regular performance feedback and counselling. They also encourage others to seek opportunities for different and innovative approaches to addressing problems and opportunities; facilitates the implementation and acceptance of change within the organization. 25%
The Manager of Merchandise Planning is expected to support the Director/DMM with leadership and organization of ad hoc projects across the division. They must be proficient in quickly delivering accurate analysis, that is both actionable and presentable to senior levels of management. 10%
They are expected to take a lead role in the presentation of financial plans/assortment plans, and OTB. They must be comfortable presenting, and speaking to their business to senior levels of management. 10%
