The Bioinformatics Internship position provides an opportunity for students who are currently pursuing a computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, or similar degree to get hands on experience working with bioinformatics scientists in a fast-paced research and development environment. The bioinformatics intern will participate in the development and testing of machine learning models to improve the performance of our algorithms to distinguish allele signals on a genotyping array.

Through improving and developing genotyping methods that build on trusted machine learning models, we can ensure accuracy of our genotyping platform and establish a competitive advantage in the global marketplace with the goal of making a positive impact on the world.
Summer projects may include the following responsibilities:
- Training on genotyping algorithms to get a base of understanding
- Understanding our group’s standard practices for genotype calling
- Brainstorming new improvements to streamline current techniques
- Align with all company safety, training, and quality regulations (i.e. ISO compliance, GLP/GMP requirements, etc.) and procedures.
- Execute experimental plans, analyze data, and contribute to technical reports and product summaries.
- Investigate new methods/technologies and maintain accurate lab notebook to support protection of intellectual property in accordance with relevant Thermo Fisher required standards.
Start Date: This internship is set to begin on either May 12th or June 16th, 2025 for a duration of 10-12 weeks – dependent upon student availability per academic calendars.
Compensation & Relocation: Our undergraduate Research & Development internships offer an hourly rate between $21.50 – $28.75 dependent upon the location you are supporting (aligned to respective cost-of-living guidelines). Additionally, a relocation stipend is offered in the amount of $5,000 if necessary. Student must be located 50+ miles away from the physical location of the internship to be eligible for the relocation stipend.
How will you get here?
- Undergraduate student completing an Bioinformatics, Applied Math, Statistics, Computer Science or related degree between December 2025 and June 2026.
- Proficient in Python, R, or related
- Experience in Statistics, probability theory, clustering methods
- 0 years of work experience required; previous related internships preferred.
- Consistent track record of results demonstrating integrity, innovation, involvement, and intensity.
- Energized through championing change, driven in getting results, and savvy in navigating ambiguity.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence.

Compensation and Benefits
The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $21.00-$24.00.
