What will Applications Engineer do?
We are searching for a Lead Applications Engineer to be a subject matter expert in instrumentation, communications, power supplies, and their application to the meteorological field for Western Weather Group.

Key responsibilities would include maintaining technical standards, integration of current and new technologies, mechanical systems /software and data platforms interfaces, and driving quality support of R&D and technical projects. Experience with analyzing and understanding weather information equipment is a key skill in this position.

This position requires relocation to Chico, Ca.



Responsibilities
70% – Weather Station Instrumentation Subject Matter Expert and Research and Development Lead
• Research, engineer, test, and implement custom weather station and network solutions to fit client applications
• Maintain knowledge of new technologies and competitors that support our core and growth markets.
• Develop and implement technical standards, QA/QC processes, technical/engineering change controls, and assist in development of a technology maturation plan
• Provide advanced technical support for new and ongoing projects
• Perform extensive research and development testing for new technologies in our field (telemetry, communications, sensors, etc.) including company software releases
• Develop new datalogger programs with advanced or custom statistical or meteorological calculations
• Perform advanced testing of meteorological equipment returned station equipment
• Provide detailed analysis of issues and deliver reports and follow-ups directly to clients
• Maintain documentation of currently implemented sensors for internal and external sources
• Advanced training documentation for clients on maintenance and troubleshooting of their systems

15% – Weather Station Escalated Technical Support Subject Matter Expert
• Direct advanced technical support to weather station client representatives over the phone
• Training and escalated troubleshooting for the internal technical support team
• Critically analyze, QC and interpret data then provide reports and findings to management
• Provide continuous improvement to the technical support, assembly, and field service workstreams


15% – Technical Management of Weather Station Field Service Workstreams
• Field Installation, calibration, audit, maintenance, repair/retrofit of weather stations with possible work in inclement weather (company vehicle provided)
• Assist the safety team with promoting and enforcing field service technician safety standards

Minimum Requirements
• B. S.

Degree in engineering or meteorology or equivalent STEM BS from accredited university
• 4+ years of experience in a related field
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Ability to lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
• Ability to walk up and down stairs, sit or stand for extended periods of time, and ability to withstand extended walking, sometimes on uneven terrain, walkways, and hills while in the field
• Ability to work with hand/power tools & knowledge of low voltage/DC circuits and testing equipment



Preferred Skills
• Leadership experience
• Engineering problem solving and process management
• Extensive project management experience
• Engineering and process standards management
• Experience with Campbell Scientific, RM Young, Vaisala, Texas Electronics equipment
• Datalogger or PLC programming experience
• Technical field work experience
• General knowledge of meteorological concepts and a passion for weather

*The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as education, skills, and location.
