Assistant Professor Palliative Care: The UTMB Department of Medicine (DOM) is recruiting an energetic and enthusiastic Palliative care physician to join this growing department. The successful candidate will provide care to patients of the Palliative Medicine practice in the ambulatory and inpatient settings; participate in the education and mentorship of medical students, interns, residents, and fellows; participate in meetings, committees; and other scholarly activities. Currently nested within Geriatrics, Palliative Care is poised for growth across our multi-hospital health system. 



Essential Job Functions Include:

  • Ability to work within a multifaceted palliative program and working with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellence in teaching palliative medicine to health science students and post graduate trainees.
  • Opportunities to work with underserved patients including patients at Hospital Galveston (TDCJ).
  • Ability to work with trauma and burns patients.
  • Ability to work within an interprofessional team that includes AP’s, social workers and pastoral care providers.
  • Commitment to academic growth and programmatic development in a growing program.
  • Expertise in pain and symptom management in patients with serious medical illness and serious illness conversations.

Position Qualifications:


  • MD or equivalent degree.
  • Palliative Medicine Fellowship training.
  • Board Certification or eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
  • Ability to obtain an unrestricted Texas state medical license.
