The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 79,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced Business Analyst for our Tysons (McLean), Virginia office. The Business Analyst supports the Association in deciding how best to use existing technology and/or integrate new tech into existing systems. They will engage with Master Executive Councils (MECs) and ALPA Departments to understand their requirements and translate those requirements to IT staff. As such, they play a crucial role in ensuring the effectiveness, functionality, and quality of Association software. Main areas of responsibility include requirements analysis, Quality Assurance (QA), continuous process improvement, ensuring clear communications between business stakeholders and development teams, and UX assessment. The ideal candidate possesses a unique blend of business analysis and quality assurance expertise, combined with a deep understanding of software development processes.

Local travel: 5 – 20%.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software development, or related field, from an accredited college or university required; master’s degree or completion of post-graduate courses in related field preferred; or, the equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience in user requirements research, UX assessment, and/or related field required, five (5) or more years strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, for effective interaction with all levels of contacts and systems’ users, internal and external.
  • Solid writing skills and an ability to write documentation for internal use.
  • Experience with all editions of Windows Server, Windows desktop operating system software (multiple versions), SharePoint Online, and Teams.
  • Expert knowledge in Microsoft SQL Server, PowerShell, Azure, Aptify, and O365.
  • Experience with Aptify and/or Lawson as well as Internet and web application design/development may be a plus

Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about the office and travel (locally, nationally, and internationally). May also include occasional bending, stooping, squatting, and/or pushing and pulling or moving, e.g., to pack, unpack, and/or move cases.



Occasionally required to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve binders, books, boxes, and files up to ten (10) pounds (lbs.). While on travel, could be responsible to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve luggage weighing as much as 50 lbs. (Assistance may not always be available.)
