2025 Summer Intern – Computational Catalysts
Department Summary
The Computational Catalysts group within gCS is a diverse, curious and action-driven team at the intersection of computation, engineering and science with ambition to advance our technical excellence. The focus of the team is on partnering with the informatics and scientific communities to create a computational and data ecosystem that powers scientific discovery and accelerates decision making. We aim to modernize our ability to acquire, store, link, share, find and analyze data across the organization through scalable and integrated solutions that truly make every data point count.
This internship position is located on-site in South San Francisco.
The Opportunity
- Build a software dashboard that integrates with existing bioinformatics systems to aggregate and summarize operational data for lab workflows in drug discovery.
- Provide scientists with metrics to easily track their workflow status, summarize samples, predict expected turnaround time, and understand costs.
- Enable insights across drug campaigns by curating historical data.
- Conduct user acceptance testing and engage in technical design reviews for informatics team feedback.
Program Highlights
- Intensive 12-weeks full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
- Program start date is in May (Summer)
- A stipend, based on location, will be provided.
- Practical, real-world experience creating an informatics tool to benefit the drug discovery process.

Who You Are
Required Education
Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree (enrolled student).
Required Majors
Computer Science, Bioengineering, or related fields.
Required Skills
The intern involved in this project must be:
- Able to confidently implement R/Python with significant prior programming experience.
- Able to learn and implement in-house visualization tools.
- A problem solver with a growth mindset, able to apply learnings and knowledge to new challenges. Have enthusiasm for learning about drug development and understanding scientists’ requirements.
- Be willing to jump in where help is needed.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
- Candidates that are part of the SFSU/PINC program are highly preferred.
- Ability to execute projects and communicate effectively.
- Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.
The expected salary for this position based on the primary location of California is $45.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
