A Production Designer Intern assists the project team to ensure that the content and integrity of the concept is maintained throughout the design, production and installation process. This role requires an in-depth understanding of the creative intent and the materials, systems and fabrication methods needed to achieve it. As a representative of the creative team, the Production Design Intern coordinates with all divisions of work to achieve their vision. The intern will report to Manager, Production Design.
The approximate date of this internship is May/June 2025 to August/September 2025 and will be located in Glendale, CA.
What You Will Do
- Confirm design interface with Creative, A&E and D&P teams
- Partner with dimensional design team in model efforts
- Develop design intent documents under Show Set/Production Design Lead
- Confirm scope details in preparation for reviews of show design documents
- Support mock-up and staging efforts
- Research materials, products and vendors
- Provide day to day support to production and installation crews
- Develop digital skills to support the project team
- Participate in peer review sessions and show set vendor fabrication supervision.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in design, i.e. theater, architectural, interior, exhibit, industrial or theme park.
- Ability to read construction drawings and navigate a 3D model
- Revit/Rhino/Adobe Creative Suite experience. Experience with other design software will be considered.
- Hands-on experience with fabrication techniques is a plus. These may include some of the following: miniature model making skills, carpentry, scenic painting, sculpting, molding, fiberglass, welding, etc.
- Ability to communicate effectively in an integrated design team with multiple subject areas
- Work is first shift but will require second and third shift periodically.
- *Valid Driver’s License required

- Experience with Rhino
Education
- Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher attending an accredited college/university, earning a degree majoring in theatrical set design, production design, architecture, interior or environmental design or related field
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:
- Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess unrestricted work authorization
- Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
Additional Information
- Able to provide reliable transportation to/from work
- Must be fully available for the duration of the internship
- Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship in Glendale, CA
The pay rate for this role in California is $26.50 per hour for undergraduate students and $27.50 per hour for graduate level students.
