The Position

The Opportunity

We are now accepting applications for the Summer 2025 Genentech Summer Internship Program. This position is for an on-site role in Oceanside, CA.



This posting is for positions within the Quality Control (QC) department. In QC, you will have the opportunity to learn about a variety of laboratory methods and analyses QC utilizes to ensure the products manufactured by the site are safe and efficacious for patients. QC testing is an integral part of how we monitor our process, product, environment, and facilities and demonstrate to health authorities the quality and compliance of our products and processes.

As an intern, you will perform various tasks under the guidance and mentorship of your manager. You will be expected to attend meetings, read independently on relevant topics, follow a training schedule set by your supervisor, and perform tasks independently as appropriate. You will also be expected to summarize the purpose of your work and any findings, and you will present future recommendations in the form of an oral and poster presentation.



Examples of your responsibilities will include:

  • Learning about current Good Manufacturing and Documentation Practices (cGMP/GDP), intent and application.
  • Becoming trained on basic laboratory techniques such as pipetting, weighing, preparation of reagents, measurement of protein concentration using spectrophotometry,
  • Performing independent research, through review of studies, protocols, and reports and discussions with personnel, to collect information and data to support study design and technical papers.
  • Collaborate with various team members within and outside of QC, both in Oceanside and at other Genentech sites, to generate study protocols and/or technical reports.
  • Support execution of studies to generate data and summarize findings in formal reports and possible other documentation and procedures.

Who You Are (Required)

  • Applicants must be age 18 or older for this opportunity
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED at the time of application
  • Preferred Majors/Coursework: STEM or Business major with coursework in Biomanufacturing, Biotechnology, Engineering, Business, or similar.

Required Education – You meet one of the following criteria:


  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree (enrolled student).
  • Must have attained a Bachelor’s Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program)
  • Must be pursuing a Master’s Degree (enrolled student).
  • Must have attained a Master’s Degree.
  • Community college affiliate (currently enrolled at a community college OR terminal A.S./A.A. degree holder within 1.5 years post-graduation at the time of application), OR B.A./B.S. OR Masters degrees

Preferred (but not mandatory) skills:


Please note: The goal of the internship will be to train you. The following skills will give you an idea of different opportunities. You do NOT need to have all of these skills in order to apply. Not all internships will use all these skills.

  • Pipetting and wet lab measurements: how to use a scale, volumetric flasks, or graduated cylinders
  • Understanding of chemistry calculations: determine molarity, % Volume, or how to calculate for dilutions
  • Familiarity with mammalian cell culture and aseptic techniques
  • Familiarity with bioreactors
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel with a basic understanding of how to organize data and use them to do calculations
  • Experience with presentations using programs like Google Slides or PowerPoint
  • Time management: organizing to-do lists, setting priorities, and following through to meet goals and deadlines
  • Experience with organizational software: Google calendar or others

The expected hourly rate range for this position based on the primary location for this position of Oceanside is $24- $35. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, level, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
