The Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA is seeking a full-time, 10-month Preschool Teacher to join our program team. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to work in a district setting while enjoying the benefits of being part of the Y family. Work during the school year and have summers off! Our staff work through the end of the school year and then return at the end of August. We have four Vineland School District Preschool classrooms here at the Y. Each room has a full time teacher as well as a full time assistant. We have a great collaborative team that is supportive and nurturing and has a passion for working with children.

About the Position:


As a Preschool Teacher, you will play a vital role in creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for our preschoolers. You will implement the High Scope curriculum, develop engaging lesson plans, and foster positive relationships with children and parents.

Essential Functions:


Create a safe and welcoming classroom environment.

Implement the High Scope curriculum and develop differentiated lesson plans.


Nurture children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

Supervise children and maintain a safe and organized classroom.


Conduct ongoing assessments and evaluations of each child’s progress.

Build positive relationships with parents and engage them in their child’s learning.


Maintain program records and attend staff meetings and training sessions.

Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure the best possible learning environment for children.



Qualifications

Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law and must possess a P-3 NJ Teaching certification.


At least 21 years of age.

CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of



hire date.

A minimum of 2 years previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.


Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate

program activities.


Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships

with people from different backgrounds.

Essential Functions

Position Summary:


This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Preschool Teacher provides direction for the children in the classroom, and implements program curriculum. This position also provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.

Essential Functions:


  • Supports and follows the YMCA of Vineland’s mission, philosophy, policies and character development program.
  • Implements the High Scope curriculum and develops lesson plans within the established guidelines and differentiation instruction to meet the developmental needs of the students.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  • Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA (IEP, PIRT, OT and/or PT) accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication
    with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  • Maintains program areas and equipment in a neat and clean manner.
  • Maintains required program records.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, parent conferences staff meetings, staff training, and parent/child events.
  • Supervising Teacher Assistant when required for the operation of the program.
  • Abides by the Staff Code of Conduct and the Child Abuse Prevention Policy.
  • Works in cooperation with other staff members to ensure the best possible environment for the children, meeting ECER standards at the highest level attainable.
  • Actively participates with the children in all activities throughout the day including but not limited to: swim lessons, gym class, and outside play time.
  • Maintains sensitivity and patience, providing care to meet each child’s individual basic needs.
  • Maintains confidentiality of the children and staff’s information.
  • Promptly addresses any personal or programmatic problems as well as offering suggestions to the Preschool Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Certifications

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law and must possess a P-3 NJ Teaching certification.
  • At least 21 years of age.
