Department Summary

Roche Carlsbad’s Sites Department includes the following disciplines: Facilities Management, Facilities Engineering, Security, SHE (Safety, Health, & Environment), as well as sustainability. The department supports multiple buildings in San Diego County and works closely with other local Roche companies. We are growing the footprint of the company as well as



The Facilities Engineer Intern position at Roche offers a unique opportunity for students pursuing or Degree in engineering to gain hands-on experience in facilities engineering and management within a regulated cGxP environment. The internship is designed to provide exposure to various aspects of facility management while working under the guidance of a Facilities Engineer. Interns will engage in meaningful projects that contribute to the operational efficiency and energy conservation of plant systems.


The Opportunity

  • Assist in identifying engineering needs for site facilities.
  • Contribute to defining projects and developing innovative solutions.
  • Assist in the implementation of engineering changes/additions and participate in the development of project documentation.
  • Learn to represent the site as a Facilities Subject Matter Expert (SME) on capital projects.
  • Learn about preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance and contribute to the development of maintenance strategies and programs.
  • Assist in ensuring cost-effective and reliable operation of plant equipment and systems.
  • Support the development and implementation of projects to improve energy conservation.
  • Learn about cost and energy savings metrics and reporting and identify energy savings opportunities.
  • Contract Management, purchasing,and financial management opportunities

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks , full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.


Who You Are

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

– Must be pursuing or have attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Process), or Construction Management


  • This role also involves actively participating in continuous improvement projects and working closely with Facilities leadership, engineering, security, and SHE teams
  • Support departments in Integrated Workplace Management Solutions
  • Assist Facilities with Building inspections, Gemba, and regulatory inspections
  • Project Management

  • Data & Trend Analysis
  • Validations

Required Majors:

Required Skills:


  • Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
  • Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment and contribute to group objectives.
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong research and analytical skills to evaluate data and identify trends.

This internship position is located in Carlsbad, California, on-site.


Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.



The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $22.00-$55.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
