The Milwaukee YMCA is currently seekinga new Director Aquatics for our Rite Hite location in Brown Deer, Wi.

Job Description

Under the direction of the District Executive Rite Hite & Membership and in accordance with Association policies, the Director Aquatics is responsible for program development and creation of association-wide initiatives, direction and leadership to policy creation, risk management, innovative growth, and quality of aquatic programming. This position is also accountable for the overall success of respective Aquatic leadership staff and their programs including Safety Around Water. The Director Aquatics will also serve as a subject matter expert for safety and risk management, child abuse prevention, and liability insurance.



Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3-5 years of successful aquatic program management and development preferred. Must have a minimum of 2 years’ demonstrated experience in staff and program leadership. Possess and maintain nationally recognized Lifeguard and Swim Instructor (i.e., ARC, YMCA, etc.) certifications, required at time of hire. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer Certification, YMCA Swim Lesson Trainer, and American Safety and Health Institute Level 5 Instructor Trainer certifications are preferred or obtained within 1 year of hire.



SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Proven ability to display initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently


Must have the ability to prioritize a high volume of work, follow through on issues, and complete work from multiple sources

Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills; public speaking, capacity to prepare reports, conduct training programs, create policies and guidelines


Competent computer skills (Windows environment)

High level of knowledge and demonstrated competence in the areas of aquatic safety and instruction, risk management, compliance, and loss prevention


Able to work flexible hours during evenings and weekends.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Directly supervises Aquatic Manager and Aquatic Coordinator. As needed, provide performance management, training, corrective action, separation and promotion recommendations to the District Executive of Rite Hite and Membership.

Essential Functions


Serve on branch leadership team and function as an expert in aquatics and as a trusted advisor by providing direction for aquatic center specific innovative growth and advancement.

Develop and manage the annual budgets for aquatic department resulting in achieving enrollment and fiscal targets.


In collaboration with Aquatic Manager/Aquatic Coordinator and Branch Leaders, provide direction for aquatic center specific innovative growth and advancement.

Directly manage Aquatic Coordinator to facilitate Safety Around Water Program.


Work collaboratively with grant writer and community partners to recruit, grow, fund and track impact of aquatic initiatives including Safety Around Water Program.

Directly supervise and provide positive influence and direction for full-time Aquatic Manager and Aquatic Coordinator that focuses them on meeting and exceeding outcomes which are reviewed and verified through audits, surveys, and on-site visits.


Ensure certifications are maintained and updated for all aquatic staff including lifeguards, swim instructors and water exercise instructors.

Follow Association guidelines for program sessions including planning, marketing, Daxko entry and implementation.


Lead and assist in developing a recruitment and career development plan for lifeguards and swim instructors.

Serve as member of the Rite-Hite Leadership Team.


Is accountable to the District Executive Rite Hite & Membership for execution of Association policies and procedures.


Utilize audit systems to provide efficiencies to aquatic safety, member/program participant satisfaction, policy evaluation, and adherence across the Association.?


Serve on association Safety & Risk Cabinet as Rite-Hite representative. This includes auditing of Incident Reports, managing First Responder Schedule, and attending Association Safety & Risk meetings.

Schedule Association-wide safety certification trainings such as: Lifeguarding, CPR, AED, First Aid, and licensed programming.


Be committed to the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee’s Child Abuse/Neglect Prevention efforts as a mandatory reporter.
