About This Role
Biogen’s Decision & Quality Analytics Innovation (DQAI) team, part of Portfolio Leadership, Analytics & Insights (PLAI) under Research, Development, and Medical (RD&M), leverages advanced analytics to provide strategic insights and prescriptive recommendations for quality and portfolio decisions. We are seeking a Data Analyst – Decision Intelligence to drive strategic decision-making using advanced statistical modeling, simulation, and optimization techniques. This role requires a deep understanding of pharmaceutical R&D or drug development processes to maximize value, optimize resource allocation, and enhance portfolio performance through data-driven insights.
What You’ll Do
- Modeling & Analytics: Develop and enhance simulation models (e.g., Monte Carlo) to assess risk, time, cost, and value for programs and portfolios.
- Portfolio Optimization: Provide portfolio-level insights with scenario analysis and trade-offs to support leadership decisions using key metrics (e.g., eNPV, ePI, launch dates).
- Metric Visualization: Implement and visualize key metrics through dashboards and reports.
- Decision Intelligence: Deploy advanced statistical and machine learning models to inform clinical development and portfolio strategy.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with functional stakeholders (Finance, Commercial, Clinical) to ensure strategic alignment and challenge assumptions constructively.
- Data Management: Ensure data quality and integration by collaborating across teams.
- User Adoption: Facilitate user testing and feedback to improve modeling tools and drive adoption for better decision-making.

Required Skills
- B.S. (or higher) in Data Science, Healthcare Analytics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Econometrics, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- 1-3 years of experience in Pharma R&D business processes, investment stage gating, and portfolio management; advanced degrees (M.S., PhD) may offset experience requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with Monte Carlo simulations, clinical portfolio analytics, and mathematical optimization techniques.
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools such as PowerBI, Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, and Matplotlib.
- Hands-on experience with exploratory data analysis, building simulation models, and presenting findings to stakeholders.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language: Python, R, SQL, or JavaScript.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in fast-paced environments.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with full-stack development (e.g., React and Flask) for interactive analytical applications.
- Familiarity with the clinical portfolio management and analytics.
- Understanding of financial analysis and metrics, such as eNPV, NOPAT, COGS, etc
Additional Information
The base compensation range for this role is $103,000 to $165,000 base salary is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job related years of relevant experience, internal equity, and location of the job. Additionally, this role is eligible for participation in Biogen’s LTI grants and other incentive programs.
