QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
2. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and licensed by the State Department of Health for the State of Montana.
3. Prefer a minimum of one year of experience, but would consider new graduates.
4. Preferred training and experience working as a radiographer and computed tomography technologist.
5. Flexibility to work overtime as needed as well as on call duty.
6. Displays a good understanding of age-related developmental issues of pediatrics and geriatrics.
7. Willingness to learn other modalities of skills such as electrocardigorams, cardiac hook ups, prior-authorization, and pulmonary function testing.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
1. Knowledge of radiographic examinations as well as procedures that require the use of contrast agents.
2. Knowledge of radiographic equipment operation and radiation safety.
3. Knowledge of patient transfers and positioning technique.
4. Open, accurate, and responsive communication, oral or written, on an individual basis or in groups.
5. Ability to handle multiple tasks / projects and meet deadlines.
6. Demonstration of ethical and professional conduct.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Capability to be independently mobile.
2. Ability to manage physically aggressive patients.
3. Ability to transport patients on the patient mobilizer or in a wheelchair.
4. Ability to move portable x-ray machine to examination site.
5. Ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance, reach, stoop, and bend while maintaining a good mechanical body position.
6. Ability to wear protective lead aprons and lead gloves during examinations.
7. Ability to perform tasks for a long period of time.
8. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate radiographic equipment.
9. Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, read monitors and documents, hear equipment alarms.
10. Ability to work within a limited space and in bright and low-lighted examination rooms.
11. Ability to travel locally and elsewhere (including overnight stays) to attend seminars, etc.
INTERRELATIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS
1. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients and families, all radiology staff, referring providers, residents, all DMHC staff, and administration who may or may not be under physical and / or emotional stress.
2. Frequent interaction with personnel in other departments and with vendors.
3. Ability to maintain confidential information.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Identifies each patient and reviews each patient’s requisition for consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis and all demographic information.
2. Records pertinent data on radiologic requisition at all times. (Provider’s name, technologist’s name, date, explanation for limited examination, etc.)
3. Assesses patient condition, ensures patient safety through proper use of support devices.
4. Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to appropriate provider, and communicates pertinent data to person responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
5. Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images, and ensures proper identification on all images.
6. Coordinates radiographic examination to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care and assists with the management of the workflow of the department to ensure the completion of work assignments in the absence of the radiology manager.
7. Demonstrates ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing the provider’s orders.
8. Contributes to the efficient operation of the department.
9. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital- related information.
10. Initiates applicable “incident reports” by end of shift and reports incomplete in incorrect examinations to ensure the proper patient charge and continuity of patient care.
11. Immediately reports all safety hazards that could harm patients, visitors, or hospital personnel to appropriate supervisors.
12. Provides proper notification for absence or tardiness.
13. Demonstrates proper response and reliability for “on-call” coverage.
14. Establishes and maintains a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all departmental staff, patients, families, and hospital visitors.
15. Monitors inventory of supplies, and notifies appropriate supervisor when stock is low.
16. Participates in the orientation and training of new employees and health care professionals.
17. Assists technologists in the production of quality radiographs (positioning, imaging plates, and technique).
18. Ensures patient safety, comfort, and care through proper technologist observation.
SCHEDULE
Unique schedule with very flexibel days on and days off. Equal ratio of days on to days off. Days on duty comprise of in-house coverage from roughly 8am to 5pm on weekdays with call coverage after 5pm until 8am the following morning. Weekend days on duty comprise of 24-hour call coverage from 8am to 8am. coverage of department alternates between two technologists with some weekend coverage provided by per diem technologists. Very competitive wage.
