Overview
The Clinical Services Technician is responsible for verification of proper patient/specimen identification, appropriateness of specimen and accompanying orders. Completes administrative support assignments within expected deadline. Responsible for preparing thawed, pooled and divided blood products and issuing blood following established guidelines. Helps to process in blood products. Answers phone and provides appropriate response to questions. Organizes laboratory work flow and appropriately prioritizes processing and distribution of specimens. Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments, and computer systems to test request, accession, correctly label and deliver specimens to appropriate laboratory sections within acceptable time frames. Performs specified procedures within scope of established testing methods and responsibilities. Performs and appropriately documents routine maintenance and quality control procedures on specified equipment and troubleshoots as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Updates knowledge, skills and applies appropriately. Maintains age-specific and other required competencies. Works both independently and as part of a team with general supervision and/or periodic review by supervisory staff.
