Job Summary:
Provides professional nursing care to clients under the direction of Registered Professional Nurse. Will be required to work with adult clients ages 18 and older. This position requires participation and/or facilitation of nursing educational groups. Must have good interpersonal skills and interact professionally with clients, families, physicians and other team members. Expected to provide input to treatment team regarding client progress.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Able to provide direct client care when required.
- Administration of prescribed medications following facility policy and procedure.
- Skilled at oral and written communication.
- Ability to follow direction from RN in health care delivery.
- Assesses client’s general condition when administering medication or when assigned to provide direct client care.
- Accepts working assignments according to client care needs in accordance with job skill level.
- Ability to take client’s vital signs and weight and document timely and accurately. Informs RN of any abnormal results.
- Assists physicians with examinations, diagnostics procedures and treatments.
- Documents all activities and interventions, client and family responses, medication dispensed and prescribed, etc., in the medical record.
- Records clients’ response to prn (as needed) medication in Meditech according to policy.
- Promotes wellness by providing educational materials and communicating physicians advice and instructions to clients
- Observes clients and reports any significant symptoms, reactions, or changes in condition to the RN and physician, as appropriate.
- Collaborates with registered nurse to contribute to the plan of care based on interactions with client and/or family.
- Participates in and promotes activities regarding quality assurance and process improvement.
- Maintains a current knowledge of nursing standards by reviewing policy and procedure manual updates
- Performs specified duties based on the specified department policies and standards.
- Administers medications to clients as ordered by physician following policy for client identification.
- Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications.
- Records information concisely, accurately and completely.
- Complies with all infection control policies and procedures.
- Attends in-services, training, and meetings as required.
- Develops and evaluates own goals for professional growth.
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings.
- Adheres to nursing staffing and scheduling policy (to include use of overtime).
- Follows chain of command resolving any issues or problems identified.
- Maintains an active role in maintaining customer service.
- Establishes collaborative relationship with physicians and other members of the health care team.
- Promotes harmonious relationships among the health care team and internal/external customers.
- Supports and demonstrates the organization mission and philosophy through self-example.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Position Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current Illinois LPN license.
- BLS certification required.
- Demonstrates clinical competence
- Assumes responsibility for own continued personal and professional growth.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (i.e. copier, facsimile machine, 10-key, etc.); personal computer and printer and specific computer software (MS Office applications and Meditech).
FLSA Statement:
This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Employees in non-exempt positions are entitled to receive overtime pay for any hours worked over 40 in a workweek in accordance with state and federal regulations.
