Position Overview:

As a Technical Documents Data Specialist, you will help to build and develop technical manuals for the entire rolling stock product line. This will include data and specification research of product information to be incorporated into an accurate and usable format for customer use. Additionally, responsibilities will include but are not limited to coordination with suppliers and vendors, incorporating customer feedback into the product, and anything else required to meet the demands of contract specifications for Conditional Acceptance.



What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Work with minimum direction and have the ability to work with a wide range of people (both internal and external to Siemens). Understanding the importance of adhering to safe working practices while producing high quality, clear and concise documentation.
  • Work with 3rd party document specialists to deliver technical manuals per contract. Reviewing and managing external 3rd party-produced documents. Liaise with internal systems engineers and vendor product engineers to discuss manual content.
  • Develop and maintain guidelines for technical publications and ensure implementation of technical publication concepts. Additionally, support technical publications and ongoing manual update projects.
  • Work with internal and external parties to acquire detailed product information to be incorporated into a technical manual. Professionally represent the company and actively participate in achieving deliverables by maintaining and developing relationships with customers, vendors, and suppliers to assist in achieving business targets.

To thrive in this role, you have:


  • Experience in gathering and incorporating customer requirements for technical specifications. The capability of gathering information through various internal and external avenues to provide all vital information per technical specifications.
  • 3-5 years of relevant job experience and/or educational background in technical writing with organizational content of manuals. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, ability to interact at all levels, demonstrate initiative, and be a flexible self-starter.
  • Experience using various ERP, Database, and Document Library systems to collect and gather sophisticated documentation for satisfying technical specification requirements.
  • Solid understanding of various Microsoft 360 and Adobe suite of programs required for the document’s environment.
  • A high level of proficiency in the English language is necessary for proofreading/editing needs. Additionally useful is proficiency in French and/or German due to the nature of our suppliers and customers.

  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of professional technical and mechanical principles and skills. Additionally, to read engineering and technical drawings and review technical documentation against actual equipment.
  • Familiar with general Document Management principles/systems
  • Use of software and suites such as or similar to:


§ FrameMaker


§ .xml file creation

§ 3D modelling software such as Creo View


  • An ability to occasionally participate in business travel both domestically and internationally with the intent to meet with suppliers, customers, and vendors for project progress and deliverables.

This position is based in Sacramento, CA. We offer a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees. Details regarding our benefits can be found here: https://www.benefitsquickstart.com/siemens/index.html. The base salary range for this position in Sacramento, CA, is $71,900.00 – $84,000. The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate’s experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
