The Data & Insights team within the Chief Diversity Office (CDO) leverages research and analytics to develop and deliver metrics, products, and tools that enable data and insights to drive D&I action at Genentech.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, CA / On-Site.

Quarterly travel may be required and costs would be covered.



The Opportunity

At Genentech, our longstanding commitment to advancing D&I is evolving into a more comprehensive approach, leveraging new tools such as AI and digital technologies to amplify our work. The CDO Data & Insights intern will merge their research, data analysis, and data visualization skills with their passion for advancing D&I in this new age of rapid digital transformation via AI to deliver scalable and effective projects that up-skill the CDO. The intern will be responsible for the following:



  • Conducting a landscape analysis to identify the most impactful ways to leverage AI across the team and broader CDO
  • Developing “insight slide decks” (utilizing Google Slides) that guide business leaders towards their largest opportunities to harness AI technologies.
  • Delivering a ‘Playbook’ that highlights team norms and best practices for leveraging AI-driven tools to amplify our impact.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).
  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)


Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

– Must have attained a Bachelor’s Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program).


– Must be pursuing a Master’s Degree (enrolled student).

– Must have attained a Master’s Degree.


– Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

– Must have attained a PhD.


Required Majors: Social Sciences, Psychology, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or related fields.

Minimum required experience / qualifications required.


  • Work or coursework experience applying one or more statistical methods (hypothesis testing, t-test, ANOVA, experimental design, etc.).
  • Work or coursework experience utilizing statistical software/programming for data manipulation and analysis (R, Python, SPSS, SAS, Matlab, etc.).
  • Work or coursework experience with data visualization.
  • Passionate about advancing and boldly championing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Required Skills: Research, data analysis, data visualization, statistical analysis, statistical software/programming.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:


  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Project Management: Capability to develop comprehensive project timelines and achieve agreed upon deliverables.
  • Familiarity with research methodologies and analysis related to people data.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $31-$50 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
