2025 Summer Intern – Human Genetics
Department Summary
The Human Genetics department is an integral part of Genentech’s drug development research engine. Our scientists use cutting-edge methodologies on biobank-scale data to bring value to patients across a variety of disease indications. A fast-paced, multidisciplinary and collaborative environment enables our innovative team science. The successful candidate will be part of a thriving and collegial community of computational biologists.
This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site
The Opportunity
- This internship is focused on developing novel integrative methods for post-GWAS analysis. At the intersection of genetics, bioinformatics and machine learning, the project will require excellent skills in data curation, coding and scientific communication, and the ability to work with independence and engage deeply with both disease biology and computational methods to uncover novel mechanistic insights.
Program Highlights
- Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
- Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
- A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
- Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
- Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
Who You Are (Required)
Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:
– Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
Required majors: Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, or a related field
Required skills:
- Proficient in programming (R or Python)
- Statistical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrates curiosity, independence and determination
- Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high-performance computing
- Experience with version control
Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $50 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
