2025 Summer Intern – Product Development Data Sciences, Analytics and Medical Imaging (AMI)

Product Development Data Sciences is a group of more than 1,000 data scientists across 5 global sites. We deliver data and insights about our medicine with excellence and passion. This internship position is located on-site in South San Francisco.
The Opportunity
- Deep learning algorithm development: develop, refactor and evaluate deep learning models in a HPC / cloud computing environment with multi-modal data including clinical data and medical images. The algorithms serve direct relevance to ongoing clinical drug development needs in diverse therapeutic areas such as oncology, immunology, ophthalmology, neuroscience, cardiovascular, nephrology, and metabolism.
- Data analytics: Developing code for processing or exploration of patient level clinical data, potentially aggregating with digital health (device) and/or genomic data
- Data engineering: Exploring efficiencies in data flow from raw to analysis ready data sets
- AI research: Suggesting and implementing new methodologies in machine learning and deep learning for data exploration and algorithm development to enable scientific reverse translation
- Innovation: Driving proof of concept work to explore usage of new software or programming language in a component of our work
Program highlights:
- Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship
- Program start dates are in May and June 2025
- A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Who You Are
Required Education
You meet one of the following criteria:
- Must be pursuing a Master’s degree (currently enrolled).
- Must have attained a Master’s degree no more than 2 years ago.
- Must be pursuing a PhD (currently enrolled).
Required Majors
Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, Biotechnology, or related fields.
Required Skills
Computer vision, medical image processing, generative models and/or foundation models applied to images / videos
Other Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
- Intermediate programming ability in Python; familiarity with PyTorch is a plus
- Experience with software development workflow including versioning and code collaboration with Git
- Good knowledge of common CNN, vision transformer models and hands-on experience developing ML/DL models is a plus
- Familiarity with clinical data and medical images a plus
- Excellent communicator and team player; comfortable explaining complex technical topics to non-technical audiences
- Experienced problem solver capable of seeking help when needed
- Passion for learning and curious about drug development in the pharmaceutical biotechnology industry

Relocation benefits are not available for this position.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $50.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
