Job Summary
The Applications Analyst I is responsible for supporting the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) within the Mass General Brigham (MGB) Digital Department as part of the Clinical Ancillary Systems (CAS) team. This role focuses on implementing and supporting laboratory systems, including Epic Beaker, Sunquest, instrument integration, and middleware, to ensure seamless lab operations across DFCI and its satellite locations. The analyst will collaborate closely with lab operations staff, vendors, and the user community to ensure that laboratory applications meet clinical and operational needs. The role also includes testing, interface support, troubleshooting lab instruments, and managing small projects.
The incumbent will be expected to perform site-level testing and quality assurance of the applications s/he supports; work with the end-users and vendors on updates and workflow changes; resolve hardware issues pertaining to lab instrumentation and devices integrated to Epic Beaker; participate in/lead Epic integration testing; and manage small projects as well as perform the duties of an individual contributor on project teams.
Sunquest lab and collect support will be required as DFCI moves away from the Sunquest lab system to Epic Beaker.
This position will primarily support the main campus lab, however, the person in this role will also be expected to assist with the labs at the regional campuses operated by DFCI when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Epic Beaker Implementation & Support:
– Participate in the Epic Beaker implementation as part of the site-based
project team, focusing on lab build, instrument connectivity, testing, and go-
live support.
– Develop a comprehensive understanding of Epic Beaker, including integrated
workflows and laboratory instrument software.
– Support Epic Beaker post-implementation, including day-to-day
troubleshooting and workflow optimization.
Laboratory System Support:
– Provide on-site support for Sunquest Lab Information System (LIS) during the
transition to Epic Beaker.
– Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to lab instruments, middleware, and
associated devices.
– Support existing integrations with hospital partners, reference labs, and
complex middleware configurations.
Testing and Quality Assurance:
– Conduct site-level testing, quality assurance, and validation for supported
applications and workflows.
– Develop and execute test plans during system upgrades and modifications.
– Perform and document testing for new lab instruments and integrations.
Project Management:
– Manage small projects or sub-projects related to LIS and lab operations.
– Participate in new interface projects, ensuring seamless integration with
laboratory systems.
Regional Campus Support:
– Provide support for DFCI regional campus labs as needed, ensuring
consistent workflows and system functionality.
On-Call Support:
– Participate in an on-call rotation shared across the team to provide after-
hours support for critical lab systems.
Hybrid work environment. Required to be present on site at main campus three days per week.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Lab Information Systems, Computer Science, or Bachelor’s Degree Related Field of Study required

MLT ASCP Certified helpful, but not required
Experience
Related IT healthcare experience and/or laboratory operations experience in an IT environment 0-1 year required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
– Experience in the development, support, or operation of software applications, preferably in a healthcare setting.
– Ability to document workflows and business processes.
– Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical staff.
– Problem-solving skills.
– Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and other popular office productivity solutions.
