Job Summary
The Health Information Exchange team is a group in the Health Information Technology and Services (HITS) organization at Michigan Medicine. The HIE team supports care delivery transformation initiatives through the effective implementation of health information exchange technologies, with goals to achieve enhancements to patient experience and care delivery, improvements in population health, and reductions in overall healthcare costs.
This position will report to the Director of the Health Information Exchange & DataWorks team as part of the Enterprise Data and Information Services (EDIS) Division of Health Information Technology & Services (HITS).

Responsibilities*
Analysis:
- Perform data analysis and problem solving in a complex healthcare environment using clinical data to deliver healthcare information to transform care delivery at Michigan Medicine. This includes data selection, manipulation, integration, and analysis with data from other health organizations.
- Analyze existing data stores and data flow in creating data integration applications that enable HIE applications and functionality. Work with partner technical teams (software vendors and internal technical teams) to understand data requirements.
Development:
- Responsible for development, implementation, testing and ongoing support of interface jobs and processes that transfer information between internal information systems and external health information exchange systems.
- Collaborate with team members to develop technical specification documents and implement as necessary. Work with data architects to develop data model(s) which support the analytic requirements. Participate in data investigation and analysis with the goal of designing mapping logic between source systems.
- Design and review technical solutions for new development and ongoing work.
Operations:
- Operational management of message-oriented middleware.
- On-call responsibilities.
- Collaborate with Linux and Windows teams to coordinate hardware upgrades and software patches.
- Work with Subject Matter Experts in various areas as operational needs arise.
- Escalate production issues to HIE partners as needed (HIE vendor, etc), or within internal teams as necessary.
- Support business analysts by reporting on data marts using SQL and reporting tools
Testing and Quality Assurance:
- Participate in functional testing as required as upstream systems are changed and replaced.
- Ensure data quality relating to records sent and received by Michigan medicine.
Required Qualifications*
Requirements for Senior Level:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of relevant experience
Requirements for Intermediate Level:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2-3 years of relevant experience
Desired Qualifications*
- Highly desired that applicants have experience working with data, defining data mapping, and analyzing healthcare data.
- 5+ years experience using interface engines to build interfaces.
- 5+ years experience working with relational data stores.
- Knowledge of clinical coding standards.
- Knowledge of the UM computing environment.
- Understanding of health care data standards- HL7 Messaging, HL7 v.3, CDA and CCD standards.
- Experience working in a large health care IT environment.
- Experience using Mirth Connect Integration Engine.
- Experience working with an Epic healthcare environment.
- Experience using Pentaho Data Integrator
- Experience invoking REST and or SOAP based web services to retrieve data.
- Experience working with data in a variety of formats- CSV, SQL, XML, JSON.
- Comfortable with basic Unix/Linux shell commands and scripting.
- Knowledge of common TCP/IP protocols and endpoints – SFTP, SCP HTTP, SMTP
- Experience implementing and supporting message oriented enterprise integration solutions.
- Demonstrated technical design and development skills.
- Familiarity with analytic tools, business intelligence tools, and statistical packages.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and other healthcare information regulations and requirements.
- Solid and effective written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent analytic and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work effectively on a team.
- Willingness and strong aptitude to learn new technologies and assume increasing responsibilities.
- Ability to work in a dynamic development environment and adjust to changing priorities, processes, and project plans.

This position is being made available with the ability for you to negotiate alternative work schedules and remote/on-site options to suit your work-life balance.
