Assistant Controller

Company

Our client is a prominent restaurant and hospitality operator based in the heart of the Fulton Market neighborhood in Chicago, about one block from the Morgan transit stop. The operation has four business units: 1) a fine dining restaurant; 2) a fast-casual restaurant 3) a private event space, and 4) a live music club. The business is already a successful operation, with $10M in gross annual revenue, and was recently acquired by a well-capitalized private equity investor with plans for further growth. The company’s CEO is a prominent Chicago hospitality veteran who formerly served as an executive with several well-known restaurant and entertainment operators.

Position

The Assistant Controller reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for the daily financial and accounting activities for the company and each of its four business units. Specific responsibilities include:

• Oversee all accounting functions including GL, treasury management, and compliance with GAAP standards
• Prepare and issue accurate financial statements for each entity on a monthly basis.
• Perform daily cash management activities and bank reconciliations.
• Establish and improve upon accounting policies, processes, and procedures
• Oversee third party vendor and banking relationships
• Regularly work with Operations to ensure accurate information is inputted into the accounting system

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field is strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years overall accounting/finance experience, preferably in a restaurant/hospitality setting.
• Strong knowledge of setting up an effective accounting system, software, accounts and financial records.
• Must be self-sufficient with the ability to work unsupervised.
• Must be able to work on-site in an office environment.
