Position Summary:


The Neuroscience Therapeutic Area Portfolio Strategy and Integration (NPSI) Team is recruiting an Associate Director, Neuroscience R&D Insights. The Associate Director will use external and internal resources to provide strategic analytic leadership, that will enable value creation and opportunity identification for Neuroscience Therapeutic Area programs and disease areas in the late Discovery, pre-Proof of Concept (POC) and Innovation stages. This position is targeted to a strategic, analytic self-starter, who will join a small, entrepreneurial business critical Neuroscience team, and play an active role in using data and insights to strengthen and balance our early phase drug portfolio. The role requires the ability to create ideas and work independently, as well as to collaborate effectively within and beyond R&D. The position will report into the VP, Portfolio Strategy and Data Sciences Integration for the NS TA, and partner closely with the Neuroscience R&D Insights Lead.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop, maintain and grow a broad, deep and dynamic understanding of internal strategic resources (including Neuroscience strategy, product development plans, Target Product Profiles, knowledge management systems); and external strategic resources (including competitive intelligence, syndicated market research, scientific advisory, regulatory precedent, and policy development). Use publicly available information to do desk research that is informative to DASLs and the TA, eg competitor information, investor reports, LI job postings to assess key business strategy topics.
  • Leverage these resources to independently generate qualitative and quantitative strategic analyses and forward-looking scenarios focused on value creation and risk mitigation at the program, disease area, and therapeutic area levels in the late Discovery, pre-POC and Innovation stages, across our neurodegeneration, neuropsychiatry and ophthalmology disease areas. Independently identify areas to create value for CDTs and DASs by applying R&D insights methodology. Provide a unique perspective leveraging own expertise in the external regulatory, competitor and commercial environment.
  • Actively partner with NPSI team colleagues, Disease Area Leadership Teams and Compound Development Teams to advise and drive Neuroscience Therapeutic Area program, portfolio and disease level strategies, plans, objectives and communications in this pre-POC space.
  • Collaborate in the post-POC space to provide mature R&D-led insights to our Late Development teams, with the goal of facilitating development planning.
  • Act as a facilitator and trusted advisor in multiple contexts throughout Neuroscience that are characterized by their strategic complexity and cross-functional nature, for example facilitating after-action reviews, strategic assessments of lifecycle management opportunities or opportunity assessments, strategic process improvements, and J&J IM level portfolio strategic reviews.
  • Create effective two-way collaboration and thought partnership with functional partners within and outside R&D, including Discovery, Commercial, Competitive Intelligence, Business Development, External Innovation, Data Science, Development and Finance.
  • Confidently participate in and expertly present to senior leadership meetings.
  • Exhibit self-awareness, a learning mindset, and the ability to convince people from different functional backgrounds of the value of the role and the strategic insights generated, gaining buy-in and uptake.


Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in life sciences is required. Post-graduate degree in life sciences strongly preferred. Neuroscience expertise is preferred.

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the global Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology or Medical Device/Diagnostics industry, or an institution that participates in pharmaceutical/Healthcare research is required.
  • Analytical and value-focused expertise required, with direct experience in Competitive Intelligence, Medical Affairs or Business Development strongly preferred. Knowledge and experience of one or more of drug development, marketing, finance and valuation, regulatory and public policy required.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, consult, facilitate and communicate effectively in a global matrix environment, with the ability to build positive relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of hierarchy, regardless of authority.
  • Self motivated, with a high level of comfort with operating as an independent worker in an entrepreneurial environment. Big picture orientation with solid attention to detail. A results and performance driven demeanor with solid sense of accountability and drive to get results.
  • Up to 10% travel may be required.

Remote work options will be considered on a case by case basis and if approved by the company.



The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$137,000-$235,750
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
