We are seeking an attorney to join the ABC Marketing legal affairs team. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for legal matters arising during the course of traditional and digital marketing for the ABC Network, CreativeWorks, and Sales.
Responsibilities:
- Drafting and negotiating a wide variety of marketing production agreements, including engaging third party agencies and production companies, creative services, below-the-line production agreements, talent agreements, content and asset licensing, and others.
- Collaborate as needed with overflow unscripted production work for ABC, Hulu, or Disney Branded Television
- Support in clearing marketing assets, and provide thoughtful legal advice to clients on potential risks and issues.
- Coordinate with Disney’s other legal teams and subject matter experts (e.g., intellectual property, music, piracy, employment, labor, global security, risk management, etc.) to address issues that affect your area.
- Manage important relationships with our business and entertainment partners, provide advice to senior executives, and assist more senior counsel in the development of department policies and procedures.
- You will be expected to work independently but collaboratively with other lawyers in the group, in particular seeking guidance on more complex or high-risk matters.
Job Qualifications
- JD degree. Admission to California State Bar Association (or willingness and qualification to be Registered In-House Counsel) and law degree from an accredited law school.
- Minimum 7 years of significant legal experience with a minimum of 5 years in the entertainment industry.
- Production experience, unscripted in particular, is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of business and legal issues pertaining to marketing and advertising. Demonstrated capacity to keep current on emerging business and legal trends in motion picture, television and new media industry.
- Superior drafting, negotiation, communication and organizational skills. Significant experience drafting and negotiating promotion, sponsorship and advertising agreements.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment and act as a resource to colleagues with less experience. Ability to build interdepartmental relationships at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and present arguments to higher-level attorneys and clients to help shape strategic decisions made by those individuals. Ability to effectively challenge business approach and articulate legal risks.
- Ability to evaluate and reconcile issues from the business-unit and enterprise level perspective.
- Exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills with the ability to work under deadlines and execute efficiently against multiple, high-priority and high volume projects. Demonstrates a clear ability to manage fast paced production environment.
- Ability to work in an environment with a high degree of confidentiality.
The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $171,900 to $222,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
