Job Description
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Oversees the development and operations of all adult and youth sports programming and designs practices, processes, and procedures for strong program and project management.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. One to two years of related experience is preferred.
3. Certifications needed: First Aid and CPR.
4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Essential Functions
1. Oversees the planning and programming for all youth and adult sports programs, with support from the Assistant Sports Director and coordinator(s).
2. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
3. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs youth and adult sports personnel and volunteers with the support of the Assistant Sports Director. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
4. Alongside the Properties Department, ensures proper maintenance of recreational facilities and fields.
5. Manages all field maintenance such as the painting of soccer and baseball fields, etc.
6. Conducts all sports training including but not limited to: practices, games, officiating and coaching.
7. Develops and monitors program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
8. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
9. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in the program.
10. Responsible for upkeep of equipment and ensures uncompromising levels of cleanliness and safety.
11. Alongside the association marketing team, plans and implements marketing strategies for programming and the distribution of program information.
12. Actively participates in the YMCA Annual Campaign and supports the branch team in meeting goals.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
