Here’s a summary of responsibilities:

The Athlete Healthcare Navigator assists in managing Team USA athlete healthcare benefits coordination, administration, and education. The Navigator also plays a critical role in supporting athletes with domestic and international Elite Athlete Health Insurance (EAHI) claims, financial assistance fund applications, and internal referrals to ensure athletes have access to medical and mental health resources. The Navigator works closely with athletes, National Governing Bodies (NGBs), third-party administrators, and internal teams to provide education and support.  

Here’s how you’ll have an impact:

Athlete & NGB Experience


  • Provide world-class customer service, ensuring all athlete and NGB inquiries are handled promptly, empathetically, and aligned with team standards and values.
  • Assist with on-call phone and email support, addressing inquiries related to athlete benefits and resources, coordination of benefits, EAHI support, and other inquiries.
  • Provide proactive outreach initiatives by phone and email as necessitated by the EAHI plan requirements, to provide individualized education regarding the portfolio of USOPC healthcare resource options.
  • Assess athlete and NGB needs, providing customized referrals to internal and external medical and financial resources as appropriate.
  • Assist in benefits coordination by ensuring athletes and NGBs understand primary and secondary claims and actionable steps to execute the claims filing process accurately; provide follow-up and resource referrals as necessary.
  • Assist athletes in navigating healthcare systems and overcoming barriers, within defined scope of practice. 
  • Provide educational tools and information to empower athletes to make informed healthcare decisions.
  • Serve as a Primary Point of Contact (PPC) for allocated sports to ensure familiarity, continuity, and enriched understanding of distinct needs.
  • Provide support in athlete transportation to medical appointments.

Program Financial Assistance Support

  • Review applications for the Medical Assistance and Mental Health Assistance Funds, ensuring all required documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Process applications and submit them for approval in accordance with established policies and criteria.
  • Communicate with athletes about application status, required documentation, and other relevant information.
  • Process financial disbursements of approved applications.

Benefits Administration


  • Maintain accurate records of member and dependent enrollments and terminations.
  • Assist with maternity benefits management, prior authorizations, claims processing, and continuation plans, aligning with policies.
  • Support monthly processes such as, but not limited to, IRS Form 1099 reporting, premium deduction communication, and roster audits.
  • Work with benefit plan vendors and brokers to troubleshoot and resolve benefit matters.
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of Summary Plan Description (SPD).


Data Collection

  • Support data collection efforts for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, reports, and filing within the shared inbox, Sharepoint, Electronic Health Records (EHR), and other systems, to ensure team members have access to relevant information.
  • Track trends for ongoing program improvements.
  • Research and classify community resources that may be of value to athletes and maintain a community resource database.
  • Maintain confidential information in adherence with HIPAA regulations.
  • Provide other project support and related duties as assigned.

Here are the skills and experience you’ll need to be effective:
  • Completion of an Associate’s degree in healthcare administration, benefits administration, human resources, social work, or a related field
  • Past job experience may be accepted in place of formal education
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • 2+ years of administrative experience
  • 2+ years of customer service experience
  • Passion for sport and the ideals of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Office 365, SharePoint
  • Ability to perform all duties within HIPAA regulations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with all staff levels and external constituents
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality service
  • Ability to deal with non-routine matters, competing priorities, and deadlines in high-volume setting.
