Job Summary



Applications are invited for a Research Lab Specialist position in the Laboratory of Spatial Systems Biology of Dr. Yang Xiao in the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan Medical School (https://www.pathology.med.umich.edu/faculty/yangxa). This is a highly interdisciplinary lab focused on both genetic and epigenetic changes in traumatic brain injury. We are an innovative, friendly, energetic, and supportive group dedicated to healthy research environment. In this role, the candidate will work as a bioinformatics specialist examining the spatial transcriptomic and epigenetic changes in brain injury and post-injury remodeling. The candidate will be responsible for sequencing data analysis, data management, codes maintenance and perform routine laboratory computational procedures in one or more areas of work under the supervision of the principal investigator.

Responsibilities*

  • Scientific data collection and analysis
  • Algorithm development, codes maintenance and data management
  • Assistance in preparation of figures, reports and manuscripts
  • Supervision and onboarding computational training of junior lab members
  • Follow and maintain laboratory protocols and procedures
  • Assist the principal investigator with lab maintenance

Required Qualifications*


  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Bioengineering, Biomedical Computing, Biostatistics, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • At least 1 year of research experience in related field
  • Research experience of statistical methods commonly used in single-cell and spatial omics, such as Seurat and Scanpy
  • Familiar in programming of common statistical languages such as R and Python
  • Familiar with Linux OS, Virtual Environment working and batch scripting.
  • Familiar with epigenome sequencing analysis such as ArchR and SnapATAC2 for sequencing alignment, peak calling, and motif score calculations
  • Knowledge of Machine learning/Deep learning is needed.
  • High-level of personal initiative; ability to work independently as well as collaborate in teams
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; must be able to communicate clearly

Desired Qualifications*

  • Research experience in single-cell and spatial omics related to brain
  • Experience with Spatial ATAC-Seq and Spatial CUT&TAG Seq
  • Experience with multiplexed imaging data processing and neighborhood analysis
  • Experience with NCBI data deposition and GitHub codes maintenance
  • Organization of workshops on programming languages and omics analysis
  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Bioengineering, Biomedical Computing, Biostatistics, Data Science, Computer Science or related field

Background Screening
