Duties
Biological Science Technician (Wildlife-GIS) position is concerned with research, conservation, and management of wildlife; the control of wildlife; or the determination, establishment, and application of the biological facts, principles, methods, techniques, and procedures necessary for the conservation, management, and control of wildlife. This position also is concerned with mapping, simple data analysis, and some data development using Geographic Information Systems and related equipment.
Major duties may include:
- Provides Geographic Information System GIS products to biologists, ecologists, and biometricians, to support field work, data analysis, and outreach.
- Plans and executes aerial surveys of Dall’s sheep, Muskox, and other wildlife species.
- Supports Biometricians with the storage, organization, and analysis of field data.

- You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 15 nights per month during summer field season for this position. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- Motorboat operation required. Selectee will receive appropriate training in motorboat operations and will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
- You may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) that is directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience may include: leading field surveys in remote locations to document and assess animal presence, abundance, reproduction, management issues and population dynamics using established protocols and standard scientific equipment (including Global Positioning System (GPS); managing, summarizing, and reporting wildlife data using computer software (such as Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, ArcGIS, Pathfinder Office, or comparable) to recommend wildlife management actions. You must include hours worked per week in your resume.

EDUCATION: Successfully completed at least one full year of graduate level course work that is directly related to the work of the position from an accredited college or university. Examples of directly related studies include Wildlife Biology and Wildlife Management. You must submit transcripts.

Physical Demands: The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (e.g., equipment and packs up to 50 pounds) must be lifted and carried on a routine basis.
Working Conditions: The work is performed in an office, laboratory, and in the field. Field work includes exposure to extreme weather conditions and terrain, pesticides, poisonous plants, biting insects, and wild animals. Laboratory work may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
Government housing is NOT available.
Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
