Position Summary:
Identifies psychological needs of a patient and/or a family member and provides intervention through various counseling techniques through the rehabilitative phase of a burn injury. Creates support groups to foster sharing of information between survivors, families, health professionals and other interested parties.



Job Requirement

Education/Experience:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related healthcare field and three (3) years experience in adult counseling.


Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Certification issued in the state of Nevada in one or more of the following: LADC, MFT, LCSW, or Clinical Psychologist. Temporary employment for a period NOT exceeding six (6) months may be granted with intern or provisional certificate that will allow the intern or provisional therapist to perform the same duties and responsibilities independently. Failure to obtain certification will result in termination of employment.


Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements

Experience in providing counseling to patients of burn injury and/or their family members.



Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
Substance abuse treatment modalities and the various counseling theories and techniques in trauma and burn medical family therapy; public and private community resources; organizational behavior and group dynamics; relevant Federal, state and county laws and regulations; basic data sampling and statistical analysis techniques; computer applications related to duties; project management and analytical techniques.; principles and techniques of preparation of effective written informational and educational materials; department and hospital safety practice and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures. 



Skill in:
Dealing with problems in substance abuse, behavioral health, relationships, work place and numerous social, financial and legal situations; applying a variety of counseling techniques and codes; acting as lead on a project or team assignment; providing professional analytical and programmatic work; carrying assigned project(s) through, from data gathering to completion; using tact, discretion and prudence in dealing with issues and people contacted in the course of duties; making effective oral presentations to small and large groups; using initiative and independent judgment within general policy guidelines; using computers and related software applications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to remain standing for long periods of time, vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
