The Lead Steward is primarily responsible for assisting to coordinate and maintain the cleanliness of all hotel china, silverware and cookware. This person must have good communication skills, lead team and have the ability to lift, push and pull a moderate to heavy amounts of weight.
Key Responsibilities
- Stewarding Operations
- Supervise the stewarding team in cleaning and maintaining kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils
- Ensure all dishwashing equipment is operated and maintained efficiently
- Oversee waste disposal and recycling processes
- Hygiene and Sanitation
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout all kitchen areas
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
- Inventory and Supplies Management
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and stewarding tools
- Place orders for required materials and ensure proper storage
- Monitor stock levels to avoid shortages or overstocking
- Team Leadership
- Train, supervise, and evaluate stewarding staff.
- Create and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage during all shifts
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and efficiency
- Equipment Maintenance
- Ensure all kitchen and dishwashing equipment is properly maintained and functioning.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs and servicing
- Maintain logs and records of equipment usage and maintenance
- Support to Culinary and Service Teams
- Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure timely cleaning and availability of utensils and equipment
- Assist service teams by maintaining the cleanliness of dining service areas when necessary
- Work closely with the Executive Chef to meet operational needs
The Hourly Range for this position is $25 – $30 per hour. This is the pay range for this position at Alila Ventana Big Sur reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based on a number of factors including experience, and education.

Qualifications
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in a hotel or restaurant environment.
- Strong knowledge of hygiene and sanitation regulations.
- Leadership and team management skills.
- Good organizational and time-management abilities.
- Familiarity with cleaning equipment and chemicals.
- Basic computer skills for managing inventory and reporting.
- Certification in food safety or sanitation (preferred).
Work Environment
- Physical work requiring standing for extended periods, bending, and lifting heavy objects.
- Exposure to heat, humidity, and cleaning chemicals.
- Requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
