MED SURG CLINICAL SUPERVISOR

Position Summary
The Medical Surgical Clinical Supervisor is responsible for supervision of all nursing and unit-based personnel on the designated shift in order to provide a safe environment for optimum patient care. The Supervisor will help to ensure quality and compliance of all policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies. The Supervisor will ensure quality care issues are addressed; assist with mentoring employees; assist with on-going employee performance management, and facilitate conflict resolution solutions.
Will participate in the direct provision of services (e.g. patient care) as necessary to meet patient and /or other customer needs. The Supervisor will be a clinically competent registered professional nurse who delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. performs, delegates and coordinates the nursing care provided to patients throughout the health system. Effectively interacts with the patient, significant others, and health care team members while maintaining the standards of professional nursing.
Responsibilities:
When Providing Direct Patient Care –
- Able to recognize an arrest and respond in a critical situation.
- Perform crisis intervention.
- Acknowledge, transcribe, monitor and ensure the accurate and timely completion of physician orders.
- Assessment and supervision of care provided by unlicensed staff.
- Acquire and maintain current knowledge of all equipment and procedures/treatments generally used in the care of med/surg patients.
- Safely and accurately administer medications within the scope of RN practice and LMH policy.
- Assist physician with invasive/ non-invasive procedures performed on the nursing unit.
- Direction and supervision of care provided by unlicensed staff
- Maintain patient safety. Identifying patients at risk for falls and following fall risk protocol.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Supervisor Related Responsibilities –
- Assist with staffing and bed assignments in coordination with the House Supervisor and Manager/Director of the department.
- Acts as a mentor and resource to employees both new and existing.
- Handle concurrent patient/visitor complaints, concerns, and issues.
- Report any employee performance issues to the Manager/Director of the department
- Investigate occurrences and report findings in a detailed report to the Manager/Director
- Coordinate patient through put.
- Make staff assignments and reassign staff if necessary
- Takes a lead role in all emergency codes: green, orange, yellow, etc.
- Communicate with preceptors and Clinical Coordinator regarding orientee performance.
- Provides Manager/Director with input regarding employee performance directly related to 90 day appraisals and annual appraisals.
- Takes initiative to promote teamwork and a positive work environment.
- Promotes a culture of safety and proactive with implementing initiatives.
- Demonstrates leadership behaviors and initiatives.
- Other tasks as delegated by management within scope of practice.
Requirements
- Current R.N. licensure for Ohio and maintain.
- Maintain valid Healthcare Provider BLS certification. (CPR)
- Previous experience in a supervisor or charge nurse role.
- Obtain and maintain competency in ECG rhythm recognition
- Formulate nursing care plans.
- Document/Communicate pertinent information regarding patient condition.
- Work independently.
- Works collaboratively with other healthcare team members.
- Complete and maintain annual competencies as outlined by the manager, director and/or clinical coordinator.
- Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet departmental needs and own workload.
