Job Summary

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Spaulding Rehabilitation and Harvard Medical School seeks to recruit a world-class researcher to lead the Discovery Center for Brain Injury and Concussion Recovery at the Schoen Adams Research Institute at Spaulding Rehabilitation to dramatically improve the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis for individuals with brain injury and concussion. As stroke is a type of brain injury, this individual will also focus their research efforts in the area of stroke recovery and rehabilitation. This position will lead a strategic plan aimed at exponentially increasing research productivity with the focus on translating biomedical and physical science research into new treatments. This individual will be a leader in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School and will be at the level of Associate Professor or Professor. This key position will foster collaborations with other scientists and generate additional federal, foundation, private, and other external grants and funds to support research, including the area of stroke recovery and rehabilitation. The position will have an established national and international reputation as a top scholar in the field of brain injury/concussion research with a strong record of publication and funding. The Director represents a critical commitment to this field of research by the institution and those who support it. Therefore, it is expected that the Director will attract nationally and internationally renowned researchers to Spaulding to conduct cutting-edge studies to advance the field and establish a wide collaborative network throughout the United States and internationally as well as train the future generations of brain injury/concussion researchers-an enduring legacy to advancing science and recovery. Furthermore, in this role the Director will conduct and/or direct other individuals within Spaulding on research efforts concentrated in stroke and rehabilitation recovery.



Qualifications

The Director will be specifically focusing on expanding brain injury and concussion research at Spaulding through strategic collaborations across the integrated Mass General Brigham health system that includes top-rated Harvard Medical School affiliated research institutions, such as Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women’s Hospitals. The Director will strengthen and develop new relationships with foundations and will enhance Spaulding’s excellent research reputation through a variety of established scientific channels including working closely with national and international organizations such as the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Association of Academic Physiatrists.



The Department of PM&R and Spaulding Rehabilitation seek to transform rehabilitation medicine by unlocking the science of recovery through the recruitment of a new Director of a multidisciplinary research enterprise. The Discovery Center for Brain Injury and Concussion Recovery is part of the Schoen Adams Research Institute at Spaulding Rehabilitation. The Center is dedicated to conducting translational research that maximizes accurate diagnosis, treatment and functional improvements for people living with brain injury and concussion, while aggressively pursuing cures for brain injury and concussion.
