We are seeking an Director for our Skincare Development Team to support our formulation Development efforts for L’Oreal Dermatological Beauty in our Clark, New Jersey Research facility.
As a Director in our Skincare Development team, your main responsibilities are:
Leads the L’Oreal Dermatological Beauty brand efforts to frame long-term and short-term strategy to establish market winning position.
Partner with marketing brand to bring strategic innovations in all zone and help build global innovation portfolio with key consumer need gaps/opportunities
Identifies and recommends new product technology paths for new global launches with a SBWA (Sharing Beauty with All) ambition.
Maintain the Global Catalog with the constant regulatory and raw material changes.
Establish strong connection with marketing, operations, safety, analytical, advance research, domains, dg, and packaging to bring consumer relevant and competitive products in the market.
Create consumer knowledge map with CMI/Competition intelligence and Evaluation Intelligence to identify
- Market and consumer deep dive
- Technology differentiation
Managing the brand development lab teams ensuring right people in the right function and ensure their development and upskilling. Retain talent and further strengthen the succession plan.
Recommends and supports training for team development and supports their growth.
Continue to strengthen Safety Culture across R&I; meet mandatory safety training requirement.
Maintain timelines for Officializing formulas for an LDB DMI Brand to manufacture with all accompanying ingredient and product specifications and clearances as required for general safety, microbiology, claim support, processing, and product/package interaction.
Project management with marketing, operations, valorization, and top management with budget and organization of new and maintenance launches.
Tracks the progress of all ongoing projects and supports project leaders with pain-points, technical expertise, and management feedback within project status and laboratory meetings.
Plans and cooperates with departmental peers on skincare departmental activities.
To Succeed in this Position, You Have:
A completed Advanced Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred is required.
10+ years in skincare formulation and team management is required, with direct examples of success in:
- Creating formulations with breakthrough active ingredients at high levels and patented technologies
- Renovation and modernization of top selling core pillar products globally to achieve measurable performance improvements
- Managing global projects with partners in Advance Research, RM D3I teams, external collaboration
- Solving complex stability and performance issues in highly complex formulations
Technical Formulation Mastery: Lead development of cutting edge skincare formulations that combine innovative active ingredients, sensorial textures, and first to market technologies. Demonstrate history of developing products that achieve global success across diverse markets
Strategic Alignment: Drive innovation by leveraging in depth consumer knowledge with specific expertise in understanding China’s competitive skincare market to execute high priority innovations that align with consumer and market needs
Team Development and Leadership: Experience leading and mentoring 4-5 Chemists and providing technical guidance and career development. Proven ability to elevate the team’s capabilities with clear examples of driving team-wide innovations and excellence
Product Pillars: Experience transforming top selling legacy product pillars and making improvements as part of the modernization. Achieving measurable improvements in consumer perception, efficacy, L4TF sustainability metrics, quality, cost are key considerations
Partnerships and Collaboration: Demonstrate ability to work closely with Global upstream R&I teams (Advance Research and Domains in US, France, China, Japan, etc.,) and with external partners such as raw material suppliers and contract manufacturers to transform first-to-the-world ingredients and groundbreaking technologies into successful product launches
Crisis Management Excellence: Expertise in handling crises related to formulation, consumer complaints, raw material discontinuation, or production issues. Proven track record of quickly identifying root causes and implementing effective and scalable solutions.
Consumer Validation Expertise: Proven record of conducting large scale BUTs and CUTs to validate new star launches and achieving winning results against key competitor benchmarks
Sustainable Innovation: Significant experience improving product sustainability metrics aligning with L4TF goals while simultaneously enhancing performance and consumer appreciation while managing cost equation
Intellectual Property Leadership: Advanced understanding of skincare patent landscape with experience filing patents that protect key innovations and secure competitive advantage
Cross Function Influence: Skilled at presenting complex technical concepts to marketing and other stake-holders ensuring alignment and strategic impact
Resource Management: Able to balance multiple complex projects while maintaining focus on strategic priorities. Able to work closely with our cross-functional partners to truly prioritize key strategic projects to best utilize our resources and budget
The ability to be onsite, in the office as this is an essential function of the position (required)
