JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Finance will oversee all aspects of Financial Operations including Cage Operations, Casino Credit, Count Room Team, Accounting, Revenue Audit, Financial Reporting, Warehouse, and Information Technology.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  • Prepares and oversees the creation of the financial operating and capital plans for the property.
  • Establishes and maintains efficient controls for all areas of responsibility while ensuring compliance in all aspects for Harrah’s New Orleans.
  • Responsible for planning, communicating, and implementing procedures for the overall efficient operation of the department.
  • Leads, motivates, and inspires finance teams to achieve customer service targets and employee engagement goals.
  • Develops increased awareness among property management of the issues confronting us, research solutions and formulate the key decisions for achieving a strategic vs. a tactical force.
  • Formulates and gains management team support for a focused, cooperative strategy for property growth.
  • Participates as a member of the senior regional Management Team, in the continuing formulation of a strategic vision for the property.
  • Ensure staff is trained and prepared to deliver the highest level of customer service to the guests in order that they might have a positive gaming and entertainment experience.
  • Assists General Manager in approval of expenditures for property. Authorized signer on all property capital disbursements.
  • Assists in the preparation and review of financial statements, cash flow analysis, and forecasts in accordance with GAAP.
  • Provides management with accurate and timely information and analyses to be utilized in controlling the operations and achieving the business plan of the property.
  • Controls and facilitates process to ensure proper head count and employee coverage in all operational departments. Monitors FTEs, actual head count, and overtime.
  • Assess competitive trends; evaluates the impact on established regional goals and financial objectives and implements corresponding plans.
  • Ensures that effective policies and procedures are established and maintained regarding handling and custody of property funds.
  • Maintains effective working relationship with all outside contacts including regulatory agencies.
  • Adheres to all regulatory, company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a role model to other employees and always presents oneself as a credit to Harrah’s and encourages others to do the same.

ESSENTIAL JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:


  • Microsoft Office computer skills, as well as statistical programs and software.
  • Knowledge of state and local tax laws, gaming laws, and banking regulations.
  • Public relations and customer service skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintaining interpersonal working relationships among all personnel.
  • Willingness to assume overall responsibility relative to the performance of accounting and the property.
  • Timeliness and accuracy in performing and completing assigned duties, responsibilities, paperwork, and reports in a timely manner.

  • Ability to manage and resolve complex issues. Can be a high stress environment.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties under frequent time pressures in an interruptive environment.
  • Broad variety of tasks and deadlines requires an irregular work schedule in an interruptive environment.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality relative to financial data and casino policies and marketing plans.
  • Must have strong people management skills, with very strong analytical skills.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Must have strong project management skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to handle more than one function at a time.
  • Must be well organized.
  • Must be able to get along with co-workers and work as a team.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a minimum of a four-year college degree; degree in accounting, MBA or CPA preferred.
  • A broad knowledge of casino and hotel internal and accounting controls, policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements is desirable.
  • Must have excellent organization, communication, accounting background with experience in hotel/casino finance related position at a managerial level is preferred.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the casino. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds and carry up to 5 pounds. Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist and grip items while working at assigned desk area. Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment, including a 10 key adding machine, PC computers, fax machine, and photocopier. Must be able to work at a fast pace and in stressful situations. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
