Position Summary


Ensures site-wide compliance with federal and/or state Fire standards and regulations. Manages and oversees all aspect of Fire Protection including fire brigades, fire protection and mitigation equipment, surveillance, and hot work and combustible controls. Ensures compliance maintaining records and preparing reports on fire investigations to various federal and state regulatory agencies, industry groups, and internal management. Will also conduct and lead all fire investigations as needed.

Essential Responsibilities


  • Maintain and enforce adherence to corporate Safety and Training policies. Uses technical discretion within well-defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Works on problems of somewhat diverse scope and complexity where analyses of data require evaluation of identifiable factors. Assists others in developing and implementing fire protection programs and procedures in an attempt to eliminate personnel injury and/or property damage due to fire and explosion.
  • Participates in the implementation of programs and procedures to ensure employee and facility safety is in accordance with all OSHA, NFPA and Life Safety Code requirements. Maintains good working knowledge of building and fire protection codes and regulations to assure compliance.
  • Participates with others in inspecting, testing and maintaining fire protection systems and equipment to ensure that in an emergency they operate and perform to standards.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports on fire investigations. Participates in fire fighter and first aid/CPR training. Provides technical leadership to less experience Engineers and to technicians. May act as lead person or technical advisor on small projects. Surveys specific facilities to determine potential fire hazards and recommends corrective action.
  • Conduct investigation of all fire incidents. Determine the cause and origin of fires. Conduct regular life safety inspections of community property, buildings, and facilities. Act as liaison to local fire departments, police departments, EMS, other agencies. Review plans for fire and life safety code compliance and conduct associated acceptance testing of fire life safety systems.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports of inspections and investigations. Stay current on fire protection understanding through professional literature and conferences. Act as fire protection expert for governmental authorities and policy makers. Document and communicate fire protection issues with building and maintenance professionals.

Minimum requirements:

  • A High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: utilities (nuclear preferred), military, industrial or civil fire service.
  • Ability to acquire any required fire protection certification.
  • Fire regulation knowledge and experience with ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to multitask and interact with diverse work groups.

Preferred requirements:


  • Fire marshal experience

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $82,800.00 to $117,600.00 per year
