The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Washington University and St. Louis Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive care for infants, children, and adolescents with gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic and nutritional disorders.  The GI Resource Nurse supports the GI Service Line by serving as a liaison between staff and physicians.  Some examples of the Resource Nurse’s responsibilities include but are not limited to case preparation, equipment management and in-servicing for staff, circulating and scrubbing of all GI procedures, provides feedback to the leadership team regarding GI staff performance, manages inventory of special supplies to maintain par levels, and reviews doctor preference cards for accuracy. 



  • 2 years of nursing experience
  • $15,000 sign-on bonus
  • Benefits eligible
  • 40 hours per week
  • Days; four 10hr shifts or five 8hr shifts
  • On-call required (shared with GI Team)

Additional Preferred Requirements

  • Prior GI nursing experience
  • Prior Charge, Team Lead, or Resource Nurse experience

Preferred Qualifications



Role Purpose

Provides and coordinates direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care. Supports the clinical manager with the delivery of safe patient care and building an effective work unit.



Responsibilities


  • Circulates and scrubs for assigned specialty and OR procedures.
  • Serves as liaison between specialty physicians and hospital. Reviews and maintains physician preference cards from assigned specialty. Maintains proper function of equipment in assigned specialty.
  • Serves as a clinical preceptor/mentor for orienteer and existing staff being introduced to the specialty area, providing them with clinical experience that promotes growth and competency. Presents training sessions on new equipment and instrumentation for nursing and technical staff members when the need arises. Provides feedback to the management regarding staff evaluations.
  • Manages the inventory of specialty supplies to maintain par levels. Reviews specialty case cart supplies, custom pacts, for accuracy and cost effectiveness. Meets with vendors and serves as a liaison between them, management, and the physicians.
