Position Overview

The Diederich College of Communication at Marquette University invites applications for a non-tenure track position for an Instructor of Practice beginning August 11, 2025, with a teaching and professional background in live sports production.


We seek an engaged teacher who will teach and work collaboratively across departments within the college and with other related programs at the university. Candidates should have a professional background in sports media production, an interest in teaching and should expect to support a variety of student engagement efforts. The ideal candidate will be active in both the profession and community.

Candidates should be able to teach courses across the curriculum in sports communication or media production. Candidates may also teach courses in their areas of expertise at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.



In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will work with the Athletics department to manage a student crew to produce live multicamera broadcasts for various Marquette sports.



J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication: The College includes the departments of Communication Studies, Digital Media and Performing Arts, Journalism and Media Studies, and Strategic Communication. Duties and Responsibilities

Candidate will be responsible for recruiting, training, and leading a student crew in the live broadcast of athletic events.


Candidate will teach courses in one or more of the following areas depending on expertise: sport communication, digital media production, journalism. Candidate may also develop new courses in their area of expertise.

Preferred applicants will have a strong commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and be able to contribute to curriculum development and diversity and inclusiveness initiatives.


The candidate should expect to support student engagement efforts including student recruitment, student co-curricular activities, and student advising.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Bachelor’s degree in an area of communication or a closely related field with a knowledge base in media production or sports communication, and five or more years of professional experience.

Must be able to demonstrate an ability to produce and direct a live sports broadcast; hire and manage crew; organize, train, and mentor students.


Should be able to teach at least two classes from among the following: Game management, Fan engagement, Sports analytics, Marketing, PR/Media relations, Sports Writing, Sports Journalism, Basic Production, Live Production.

Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate potential for engaged teaching excellence.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of Ross Xpression, Acuity, Tricaster, CueIT, Blackmagic Ursa, RTS , Photoshop or similar professional tools is preferred.


Prior experience teaching at the university level is preferred.
