General Description:

Ordering and receiving pharmaceutical supplies, performing clinical safety reviews, preparing and dispensing commercial and investigational pharmaceuticals, reviewing and implementing protocols and pharmacy manuals to prepare investigational drugs for clinical trials.



Essential Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Safety Review:  Reviews lab values and consults protocols to verify orders are clinically appropriate prior to compounding/dispensing medications.
  • Fills Prescriptions.  Compounds and dispenses medications, following prescriptions issued by physician, dentist or other authorized medical practitioner.
  • Medication Preparation.  Weighs, measures, and mixes drugs and other medicinal compounds, and fills bottles or capsules with correct quantity and composition of preparation.
  • Medication Administration.  Ensures that patient understands prescribed instructions and advises patient regarding storage for prescription medication.
  • Medication Storage.  Stores and preserves biological, vaccines, serums, and other drugs subject to deterioration, utilizing refrigeration and other methods.  Maintains temperature monitoring of investigational product
  • Supply Maintenance.  Orders and maintains supply of drugs, chemicals, and other pharmaceutical stock.
  • Provide Instruction.  May instruct interns and other medical personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy, or teach in the College of Pharmacy.
  • Record Maintenance.  Maintains records on all prescriptions filled and computes and records charges for billing purposes.  Maintains ordering, receiving and dispensing information of investigational products for clinical trials monitor visits and audits.
  • Professional Information.  Provides information to physician and other staff members on availability of new drugs, warnings on currently marketed drugs, incompatibility of certain drugs.
  • Study Protocol Activity:  Coordinates and implements day-to-day activities of clinical trials. Reviews protocols and performs necessary quality assurance audits for protocols. Review pharmacy manuals and drug preparation of investigational drugs.  Verbal and written correspondence with Clinical Trials Office and Sponsors
  • Policy and Procedures:  Develops policy and procedures for the Investigational Drug Services Pharmacy area.

General Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Education:  PharmD or Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy
  • Experience: 12 months experience as a Pharmacist preferred
  • Certifications/ Licenses:  Must be a licensed Pharmacist by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy or obtain licensure within 90 days of hire. Must possess or be able to obtain an Oklahoma Preceptor’s license by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy within one year of hire.
