THE POSITION

The Department of Environmental Protection is looking to hire a Licensed Professional Geologist for a technical role within the Technical Services Section of the Northeast Region’s Waste Management Program. In this position, the Licensed Professional Geologist (LPG) will play a crucial role in evaluating applications for permits related to hazardous, municipal, and residual waste disposal, as well as processing and treatment facilities. Additionally, the LPG will contribute to the development and execution of a groundwater protection strategy at solid waste facilities throughout the Northeast Region. Responsibilities also include monitoring groundwater conditions around both permitted and unpermitted waste sites, as well as overseeing and assessing remedial actions at contaminated locations.




DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will oversee the evaluation of applications related to the permitting of facilities for the disposal, processing, and treatment of hazardous, municipal, and residual waste. You will also play a key role in executing a groundwater protection strategy specifically designed for solid waste facilities within the Northeast Region. Additionally, your responsibilities will include monitoring the groundwater in the vicinity of both permitted and unpermitted waste facilities. Furthermore, you will review and supervise remedial actions at sites affected by contamination.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office.
  • Salary: Selected candidates, who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,678.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires the possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:


  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
