The primary responsibilities of the Manager – Eng & Field Support role include managing a team of operations engineers, providing engineering and analytical support to district staff and field-based engineering support managers, and supporting existing processes and the development of new ones. This role supports existing processes, documentation and the development and rollout of new processes in conjunction with other FedEx departments.

Essential Functions

  • Hiring, terminations, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, performance management and staff productivity.
  • Plans, organizes, staffs, directs and controls the day-to-day operations of the department; develops and implements policies and programs as necessary.
  • Develops and manages the department budget; ensures compliance and addresses variances and other budget concerns.
  • Oversees the annual development of station dock goals, dock wages (direct, indirect), and capital equipment justifications; addresses variances at all levels; station, region, and company.
  • Oversees compliance of Business Control Self-Assessment areas assigned to engineering; develops and administers Controlled Self-monitoring activities within the Engineering department.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of engineered model for station management staffing; annually adjusts model based on volume growth and needs of field operations; monitors adherence to plan.
  • Coordinates and supports District staffs to ensure station operations are properly engineered.
  • Oversees the development & maintenance of station engineering planning and operations management training tools to ensure optimal service, station dock productivity, and scanning compliance.
  • Provides technical direction on Information Technology (IT) system and methods/process enhancements to dock operations.
  • Supports and provides recommendations on performance management and production activities for district staff and Engineering field positions as needed.
  • Provides engineering support to multiple cross-functional project teams in PGH, both tactical and strategic.
  • Provides engineering support of dock operations data and performance reporting processes.
  • Oversees the development of dock standard updates and justifies operations equipment needs.
  • Develops plans and strategies to ensure effective station operations through the peak season.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education


Bachelors degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Logistics or related field.

Minimum Experience


Five (5) years experience required in Engineering, Project Management, or related area.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities


Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications.

Ability to inspire a shared vision and empower and motivate a team.


Verbal and written communication skills necessary to explain complex and/or confidential information.

Presentation-making skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver informational sessions to groups and/or individuals.


Time management and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs.

Ability to anticipate and identify problems and use sound judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions.

Pay Transparency: This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary range for this role across all potential locations. If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay would be determined by experience relative to the job, market level, pay at the location for this job and other job-related factors permitted by law. An employee may be eligible for additional pay, premiums, or bonus potential. The Company offers eligible employees health, vision and dental insurance, retirement, and tuition reimbursement.



Pay: (FEC_E28) $8,896.99/month – $15,124.88/month

Additional Details: This position is domiciled in Pittsburgh, PA.
