We are seeking a Full Time (40 Hour) Nurse Practitioner to join our Surgery team at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. The schedule will consist of (4) 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday. The hours are 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. This on-call requirement for this role is every third weekend (Saturday and Sunday) from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We are located on the Cooley Dickinson Main Campus at 30 Locust St, Northampton, MA 01060.
Under the clinical supervision of the Chief of the service line, the NP oversees and participates in the care of patients in the inpatient setting. The NP performs evaluations, coordinates and participates in treatment plans, monitors patient progress and documents patient care. This role will work with several surgical specialties and serve as potential first assist coverage for general surgery, OB/GYN, orthopedics, and plastics.

Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. The NP is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.

Essential Functions
-Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting
-Performs complete histories and physical examinations
-Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
-Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings
-Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries
-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures

Master’s Degree Nursing required

Experience
experience as a nurse practitioner 0-1 year preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
– Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
– Ability to maintain quality control standards.
– Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
– Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
– Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
Additional Job Details (if applicable)
- 5+ years of diversified peri-operative experience required
- Experience with scrubbing required
- Candidates must be willing to obtain NACS certification within six months of hire
