Description

We are looking for a patient-focused Ophthalmic Technician to join our team! In this role, you will travel to multiple UCLA Health locations in the Department of Ophthalmology and will be assigned to a unit or division as needed to provide patient care services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



  • Record patient medical history
  • Perform visual acuity tests, autorefractometry, lensometry, and tonometry
  • Administer eye drops for dilation and anesthesia
  • Assist with minor procedures
  • Educate patients on eye care, treatment plans, and post-procedure instructions
  • Maintain and sterilize ophthalmic instruments and equipment
  • Support administrative tasks such as file prep, insurance verification, patient follow-up, and prescription refills


Salary Range: $35.57-46.93 Hourly



This position will travel to multiple UCLA Health locations in the Department of Ophthalmology and will be assigned to a location as needed to provide patient care services. Ability to travel is required. 

Qualifications Required:
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or minimum 2 years’ experience working as an ophthalmic technician.
• Knowledge of ophthalmic clinical protocols and ophthalmic medical terminology, anatomy and physiology of the visual systems.
• Skill in acquiring accurate medical history, measuring and recording visual acuity, and tonometry.
• Experience in contact lens verification and ordering.
• Experience in training patients in proper contact lens insertion, removal, and hygiene.
• Ability to work with Microsoft Word & Excel software and type with speed and accuracy.
• Ability to write concisely and clearly, edit, and proofread to ensure grammatically correct and factual correspondence.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with patients, staff and physicians.
• Ability to work on a self- directed basis with limited supervision.
• Ability to analyze clinical and administrative information and determine appropriate course(s) of action to resolve conflicts and discrepancies.
• Knowledge of the operations and maintenance of patient-related testing equipment.
• Responsible and detailed-oriented.
• Ability to learn state of the art diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to work under pressure, organize, and prioritize duties to maximize clinic efficiency.
• Ability to work as a team member in an ophthalmic setting.
 Ability to travel to multiple UCLA Health locations. 


Preferred:

• Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT).
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR).
