Duties

You will perform and lead a small group, all kinds of ordnance equipment tasks involved in the construction, repair, maintenance, overhaul and conversion of a wide variety of types and sizes of marine craft and vessels in connection with miscellaneous manufacturing projects performed at the Yard.


Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Installing, overhauling, modifying, testing, aligning and repairing defective mechanical, electrical, electronic and hydraulic elements of ordnance weapon and fire control systems. The technician will work on systems of great complexity such as MK 75 76mm Gun Weapon System, 25 mm-MK 38 Mod 1, 2, & 3 Machine Gun Systems, MK110 57mm Gun Weapon Systems, 20mm Phalanx Close-in Weapon Systems (CIWS) Gun Ammo Handling System (GAHS), MK 92 Fire Control Systems, Decoy Launching Systems (MK 36 SRBC, MD 33 Nulka)
  • Maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting and modifying weapon systems, test equipment and constructs special mechanical, hydraulic, electrical units and fixtures.
  • Performing installation and test of system components at various locations.
  • Overhauling and properly connecting hydraulic, electrical, mechanical and pneumatic weapon system components to unit specific test fixture in an effort to abide by and meet Factory Acceptance Tests Standards (FATS).
  • On vessel installation, ISMAT (In-service mechanical adjustment and timing)/ISMPE (In-service motor and evaluation program, SOVT (System operational verification test, and BIT (Built in testing) testing of system components at various locations.
  • Performing Ordnance Alterations (ORDALTS) on various ordnance and fire-control equipment.
  • Traveling to Coast Guard vessel locations and Foreign Military support work locations to provide Depot Level Technical Assistance and CASREP (Casualty Report).

Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.

Student Loan
