Overview

Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the behavioral health patient safety attendant provides direct observation and companionship to patients to ensure their safety and prevent falls, injuries, or any harm. This role involves working closely with the nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure a safe and caring environment for patients.

Responsibilities


  • Observation: Maintain continuous visual and auditory observation of the patient, staying within arm’s reach unless directed otherwise by the nursing staff.
  • Safety: Monitor patient activities to ensure safety, preventing falls, self-harm, or wandering. Alert the nursing staff immediately in case of any emergency or potential danger.
  • Companionship: Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, engaging in conversation and activities that help reduce anxiety and promote a positive environment.
  • Documentation: Accurately document patient observations, behaviors, and any significant events or changes in condition, reporting them to the nursing staff promptly.
  • Assistance: Assist patients with non-medical tasks such as eating, drinking, and hygiene needs, ensuring comfort and dignity.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure coordinated care.
  • Environment: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment in the patient’s room, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Training: Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current with best practices and policies related to patient safety and care.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset Basic Computer skills.
  • Excelled observational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor
  • Basic understanding of patient care and safety protocols

Education

Essential:
* High school graduate or equivalent
