Shift/Schedule: Full Time (36 hrs/wk)
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse reports to the Manager. The RN’s primary job function is to develop and coordinate nursing care in conjunction with other health professionals and in accordance with physician’s treatment plans in order to provide for the comfort and wellbeing of patients. Assesses patients’ condition, administers prescribed medications, provides treatments, observes patients’ progress, records pertinent observations, and reports reactions to medications and treatments. Supports each Strategic Value by providing excellent care to those we serve. Works with other disciplines/ancillary services in the care they provide.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
Licensure:
• RN(OH) required
• BLS within 90 days of hire required
• ACLS and PALS within 1 year of hire required
Experience:
• Relevant experience preferred
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Works with the medical staff to coordinate medical and nursing care management.
2. Maintains awareness of current healthcare developments in area of specialty and/or responsibility.
3. Completes primary and secondary nursing assessment of patient and documents assessment in the medical record.
4. Plans nursing interventions and nursing care based on assessment including the patient and/or significant other in this care.
5. Communicates and collaborates with the physician and other health team members in developing a plan of care.
6. Provides, delegates, and coordinates the plan of care.
7. Initiates, manages, and participates in the discharge planning process including health teaching.
8. Evaluates patients’ response to plan of care, revises as needed, and documents response in the medical record.
9. Maintains professional standards by participating in in-services, committees, and PI.
10. Supervises ancillary personnel as appropriate.
11. Coordinates the care needs of multiple patients, prioritizing patient care to ensure patient needs are met in a timely fashion, that quality care is delivered, and patient flow is enhanced
12. Provides and coordinates patient care tasks.
13. Evaluates patient’s response to plan of care and updates plan of care.
14. Facilitates patient/family teaching using strategies corresponding to the learning ability/preferences of the patient/family.
15. Evaluates/documents the effectiveness of teaching.
16. Demonstrates positive, supportive behavior to members of healthcare team, patient and families, through effective communication skills, appearance, and professional demeanor.
17. Demonstrates ability to response to changing workload related to patient census, ability to rapidly problem solve and set priorities.
18. Demonstrates the ability to organize and/or delegate staffing to meet the needs of the department.
19. Recognizes severity of illness and complications to treatment, monitor life support and automated technical equipment, perform emergency resuscitation, admit to appropriate nursing unit, or transfer appropriate patient to tertiary facility.
20. Responds to crisis in a calm, efficient manner, directing other concisely.
21. Actively participates in developing own professional goals.
22. Coordinates care of ED outpatients
• Maintains expertise in critical care processes and procedures
• Maintains ACLS certification. Functions as a member of Code Blue team.
• Performs patient care delivery and use of equipment according to the Emergency Services Policy and Procedures Manual and Organizational department of Nursing standards manual.
• Documents and maintains ED Patient record using EHR system, that is medico- legally acceptable, reflective of nursing care provided with the patient response to care delivered.
23. Coordinates care of ED Holding patients (Admissions)
• Completes nursing assessment of patients and documents appropriately on patient admission record.
• Develops a plan of care based upon the assessment of the patient.
• Communicates and collaborates with physicians and other health team members in developing a plan of care.
• Initiates, manages, and participates in discharge planning process.
• Implements, delegates, and coordinates patient care.
• Evaluates the patient’s response to and updates plan of care.
• Facilitates patient/family teaching as appropriate
24. Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, delegate and coordinate individual patient care for inpatient infant to geriatrics
25. Documents and maintains Inpatient admission record
26. Coordinates care of outpatient Pediatric Patients
• Completes nursing assessment of patients and documents appropriately on outpatient record
• Communications and collaborates with physicians and other health team members concerning outpatient orders
• Initiates, manages and participates in discharge planning process
• Implements, delegates, and coordinates outpatient patient care, test, and/or procedure
• Evaluated the patient’s response to the ordered test or procedure
27. Demonstrates ability to perform duties as the ED Charge Nurse if assigned
• Coordinates flow of patient care in collaboration with ED Attending Physician
• Maintain charge nurse notebooks assignments/checklist
• Performs rounding behaviors on patients/family and staff
• Manages patient flow to ensure appropriate staffing patterns for shift
• Monitors lab and radiology turn-around-times
• Coordinates and monitor patient care
• Assigns and supervisors LPN assignment
• Communicate ED status and works to facilitate patient admission
• Attends 180 admission meetings
• Ensure that communication using Grease Boards and Vocera Badges is maintained
28. Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy
29. Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU’s
30. Performs other duties as assigned
